Management Principles (3 cr.)<br />

This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> key organizational and behavioral<br />

concepts, which underlie effective management practice in private and<br />

public sector organizations around the world. Comparative management<br />

systems are examined in terms <strong>of</strong> global applications. Special attention<br />

is given to defining and interpreting cross-cultural differences and<br />

influences. The course emphasizes the approaches <strong>of</strong> collaboration that<br />

especially address the expectations, needs and performances <strong>of</strong> people<br />

in organizations and gives attention to the external, internal and global<br />

cultures that influence organizational structure, behavior and change.<br />

ACM600<br />

Management <strong>of</strong> Nonpr<strong>of</strong>it Organizations (3 cr.)<br />

This course is an overview <strong>of</strong> management <strong>of</strong> nonpr<strong>of</strong>its and the human<br />

capital that is responsible for the operations <strong>of</strong> nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations,<br />

including staff, board <strong>of</strong> directors, members, and volunteers. Presented are<br />

models for board governance and internal and external factors that affect<br />

how boards function. Discussion also centers on effective nonpr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

management practices, building productive relationships with creative<br />

personnel, strategies for collaborative leadership, and founder succession.<br />

Communication Skills (2 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: It is recommended that this course be taken in the<br />

student’s first semester<br />

The focus <strong>of</strong> this course is on written and oral communication in<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional and academic settings with an emphasis on academic<br />

writing. Theories <strong>of</strong> interpersonal and organizational communication,<br />

appropriate writing style based on audience, academic voice and style,<br />

literature searches, writing that incorporates source materials, ethical<br />

use <strong>of</strong> source materials, APA style and effective presentations are<br />

examined.<br />

Leadership and Decision-Making (2 cr.)<br />

This course introduces selected models and practices in the exploration<br />

and understanding <strong>of</strong> what is effective leadership and decision-making.<br />

Skills necessary for effective decision-making and problem-solving within<br />

organizations are emphasized from the role <strong>of</strong> manager.<br />

Project Management (2 cr.)<br />

This course facilitates learning and applying the principles and tools <strong>of</strong><br />

successful project management in organizations. It examines how a<br />

successful project manager controls company resources within the limits<br />

<strong>of</strong> time, cost, and performance.<br />

GM630<br />

Quantitative Methods (3 cr.)<br />

This course focuses on statistical analysis <strong>of</strong> data for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

applications or research with an emphasis on quantitative<br />

methodologies. The course covers populations, sample selection,<br />

descriptive and inferential statistics. Significance, Chi Square,<br />

correlations, analysis <strong>of</strong> variance and simple regression, and concepts <strong>of</strong><br />

reliability, validity and levels <strong>of</strong> measurement are addressed.<br />

Social Economics (2 cr.)<br />

This course examines economics and its effect on business and social<br />

environments. The course uses micro and macro economic theory and<br />

environmental scanning techniques to look at a variety <strong>of</strong> domestic and<br />

global social problems.<br />

Legal Issues for Managers (2 cr.)<br />

This course is an overview <strong>of</strong> the American legal system and its impact<br />

on organizational decision-making in this country and around the world.<br />

It emphasizes spotting legal issues in management primarily in the areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> torts, contracts, employment and discrimination law. In addition, this<br />

course surveys current trends and issues in business law and the impact<br />

they have on today’s society.<br />

Marketing Management (2 cr.)<br />

This course emphasizes a practical and comprehensive application <strong>of</strong><br />

key marketing concepts as they apply to businesses and organizations.<br />

Major marketing principles and strategies are explored from a<br />

managerial perspective as they apply to the marketplace domestically<br />

and around the world.<br />

ACM645<br />

Marketing for Nonpr<strong>of</strong>its (2 cr.)<br />

The course examines practical strategies and trends in marketing for<br />

small and mid-sized nonpr<strong>of</strong>it organizations. Topics include the role <strong>of</strong><br />

marketing in nonpr<strong>of</strong>its, marketing research and planning, marketing’s<br />

impact on organizational revenue, relationship between marketing and<br />

fund development, types <strong>of</strong> marketing tools and strategies, audience<br />

identification and development, and role <strong>of</strong> staff and board <strong>of</strong> directors in<br />

nonpr<strong>of</strong>it marketing.<br />

Human Resource Management (2 cr.)<br />

This course examines core areas <strong>of</strong> staffing, training, motivation,<br />

compensation and benefits, and employee relations in both service and<br />

product-driven organizations. It emphasizes the understanding and<br />

application <strong>of</strong> effective human resource management principles to the<br />

issues faced by the human resource manager in today’s world.<br />

This course introduces, discusses and analyzes financial issues facing<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>it, not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it and governmental organizations in today’s domestic<br />

and global business environment. The course provides the general<br />

manager with an ethical financial manager’s perspective by way <strong>of</strong><br />

examination <strong>of</strong> various financial areas including: types <strong>of</strong> organizations;
