The Future <strong>of</strong> Organizations (3 cr.)<br />

This course addresses various unpredictable and ambiguous situations<br />

encountered by modern organizations. It emphasizes sensitivity to<br />

changing socio-economic conditions and challenges to existing patterns<br />

and beliefs. Methods to recognize the ways in which organizations<br />

change, and develop skills to guide these organizations in the future are<br />

studied.<br />

Entrepreneurship (3 cr.)<br />

This course examines what it takes to start, nurture and grow a<br />

business. Topics include resource gathering, business plan preparation,<br />

utilizing innovation and creativity in growing a business, risk evaluation,<br />

and leadership skills.<br />

Product and Operations Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course provides an analytical systems viewpoint for management<br />

decision-making and problem-solving in a production operations setting.<br />

Included is an introduction to quality, process design, facility planning<br />

and location, scheduling, and materials planning. This course also<br />

reviews problem-solving methodologies that apply a systematic<br />

approach to problem identification and resolution within a system.<br />

Reflective Life Writing (2 cr.)<br />

The course focuses on writing reflective essays about personal<br />

experiences, with an analytical approach to how those experiences have<br />

changed and shaped our understanding <strong>of</strong> ourselves and the world<br />

around us. The course particularly addresses writing in areas that<br />

connect to specific undergraduate competency areas, including cultural<br />

and historical perspectives, aesthetics, social responsibility, and critical<br />

thinking. The writing <strong>of</strong> reflective essays supports writing for other<br />

coursework, the Capstone, and the Independent Learning Review/Prior<br />

Learning Assessment portfolios, as well as allowing students to develop<br />

a stronger understanding <strong>of</strong> the learning derived from personal<br />

experience.<br />

Electives in Other Majors<br />

With approval <strong>of</strong> the program director, students may register for elective<br />

courses in other majors. <strong>Student</strong>s must still complete all requirements<br />

within their own majors. They must also meet all prerequisites for nonmajor<br />

courses for which they are registering.<br />

Introduction to the Arts (3 cr.)<br />

This course is an introduction to the arts. The history <strong>of</strong> various art forms<br />

including theatre, dance, opera, music, visual arts and creative writing, is<br />

explored. This is not a "hands-on" course in learning how to paint, dance,<br />

etc., but rather a course on how to experience art as a viewer, reader or<br />

audience member. <strong>Student</strong>s will attend performances and exhibitions at<br />

local arts organizations.<br />

General Psychology (3 cr.)<br />

This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the discipline <strong>of</strong> psychology<br />

including basic psychological processes, concepts, and methods. Major<br />

theories and contributors are studied.<br />

GE317<br />

Developmental Psychology (3 cr.)<br />

The course examines characteristic changes in behavior and functioning<br />

in each stage <strong>of</strong> life from conception to death. Physical, cognitive,<br />

affective, and social bases <strong>of</strong> behavior are explored.
