Fundamentals <strong>of</strong> Project Management (3 cr.)<br />

This foundation course examines the project management framework.<br />

This framework covers key terminology, project management context,<br />

and processes. Topics include project management knowledge areas, life<br />

cycles and organizational designs. Particular emphasis is placed on<br />

project initiation.<br />

Project Planning and Estimating (3 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: PRM600<br />

This course examines activities related to project planning and<br />

estimating. It examines the use <strong>of</strong> various planning techniques in<br />

managing budgets, schedules, and human/material resource allocations.<br />

Planning activities associated with quality, communication, risk and<br />

procurement are addressed.<br />

PRM602<br />

Project Human Resource Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course examines the various organizational designs used to<br />

effectively complete projects through people. Topics include<br />

organizational planning, staff acquisition, team development, conflict<br />

resolution, and negotiation.<br />

PRM603<br />

Project Communication (3 cr.)<br />

This course examines various methods used to effectively communicate<br />

project information including requirements, project plan, performance,<br />

milestone reporting, and project closure. Technical writing and formal<br />

presentation techniques are addressed.<br />

PRM604<br />

Project Risk and Quality Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course explores the basic principles and practices <strong>of</strong> risk and<br />

quality management. Key concepts in developing a risk management<br />

plan include: identifying, analyzing, mitigating, and monitoring risks in<br />

projects. Key concepts in quality management include quality planning,<br />

quality assurance and quality control.<br />

Project Procurement and Cost Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course examines the principles and concepts essential to procuring<br />

products or services outside the project organization. Topics include<br />

procurement planning, solicitation, evaluation, selection, negotiation, and<br />

contract management. Various types <strong>of</strong> contracts used in procurement<br />

are reviewed.<br />

PRM606<br />

Global Project Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course focuses on the various considerations project managers<br />

must make for successful global projects. It addresses the differences<br />

between differing political climates and stages <strong>of</strong> economic development.<br />

Social and cultural differences <strong>of</strong> countries are examined for their impact<br />

on project processes.<br />

Management Principles (3 cr.)<br />

This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> key organizational and behavioral<br />

concepts, which underlie effective management practice in private and<br />

public sector organizations around the world. Comparative management<br />

systems are examined in terms <strong>of</strong> global applications. Special attention<br />

is given to defining and interpreting cross-cultural differences and<br />

influences. The course emphasizes the approaches <strong>of</strong> collaboration that<br />

especially addresses the expectations, needs and performances <strong>of</strong><br />

people in organizations and gives attention to the external, internal and<br />

global cultures that influence organizational structure, behavior and<br />

change.<br />

Leadership and Decision-Making (2 cr.)<br />

This course introduces selected models and practices in the exploration<br />

and understanding <strong>of</strong> what is effective leadership and decision-making.<br />

Skills necessary for effective decision-making and problem-solving within<br />

organizations are emphasized from the role <strong>of</strong> manager.<br />

Quantitative Methods (3 cr.)<br />

This course focuses on statistical analysis <strong>of</strong> data for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

applications or research with an emphasis on quantitative methodologies.<br />

The course covers populations, sample selection, descriptive and<br />

inferential statistics. Significance, Chi Square, correlations, analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

variance and simple regression, and concepts <strong>of</strong> reliability, validity and<br />

levels <strong>of</strong> measurement are addressed.<br />

Financial Management (3 cr.)<br />

This course introduces, discusses and analyzes financial issues facing<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>it, not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it and governmental organizations in today’s domestic<br />

and global business environment. The course provides the general<br />

manager with an ethical financial manager’s perspective by way <strong>of</strong><br />

examination <strong>of</strong> various financial areas including: types <strong>of</strong> organizations,<br />

sources <strong>of</strong> capital, investment in the US and in foreign countries, asset<br />

management, time value <strong>of</strong> money, international payments and foreign<br />

exchange rates, trade theory and policy, and financial statement<br />

analysis.<br />

Strategic Management (2 cr.)<br />

This course examines both the theory and application <strong>of</strong> strategic<br />

management tasks. Among the tasks considered are: developing a<br />

mission/vision statement, setting objectives, developing and<br />

implementing a strategy, and evaluating performance.<br />

GM675<br />

Managerial Ethics and Issues (2 cr.)<br />

This course examines various theories and methods that can be used to<br />

resolve organizational dilemmas involving ethical behavior. <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

apply philosophical principles and managerial techniques to the<br />

ambiguous and ethical issues facing today’s organizations domestically<br />

and globally.
