Organizational Culture and Change (3 cr.)<br />

This course focuses on the ability <strong>of</strong> leaders to understand and manage<br />

organizational change. It addresses a broad-based understanding <strong>of</strong> the<br />

nature, function, and complexities <strong>of</strong> organizations. Ways <strong>of</strong> dealing with<br />

change are developed from sometimes disparate views <strong>of</strong> organizations.<br />

Critical Thinking for Managers (3 cr.)<br />

The course examines the practical and dynamic relevance <strong>of</strong> critical<br />

thinking for managers, emphasizing the decisional aspects <strong>of</strong><br />

management. Topics focus on eliciting new managerial insights,<br />

improving managerial problem-solving and decision-making skills, and<br />

on strengthening the student’s ability to articulate reasoned solutions to<br />

managerial problems and opportunities.<br />

The Future <strong>of</strong> Organizations (3 cr.)<br />

This course addresses various unpredictable and ambiguous situations<br />

encountered by modern organizations. It emphasizes sensitivity to<br />

changing socio-economic conditions and challenges to existing patterns<br />

and beliefs. Methods to recognize the ways in which organizations<br />

change, and develop skills to guide these organizations in the future are<br />

studied.<br />

Exploring Issues in Culture and Diversity (3 cr.)<br />

This course examines culture and the multiple viewpoints and<br />

experiences <strong>of</strong> others, and covers theories for living and working with<br />

integrity in a global society. Methods <strong>of</strong> combining ideas from different<br />

subject areas into an integrative approach to address the problems<br />

inherent in real-life issues related to diversity are explored.<br />

Information and Society (3 cr.)<br />

This course investigates sources <strong>of</strong> information, ways to access<br />

information, and the integration <strong>of</strong> information toward a purpose. In<br />

addition, emphasis is placed on the ethical uses <strong>of</strong> information as well as<br />

the evaluation <strong>of</strong> information for credibility, bias, and relevance.<br />

Differences among data, information, knowledge, and wisdom are<br />

examined.<br />

Performance Improvement through Training (3 cr.)<br />

This course explores performance improvement strategies used by<br />

business and industry focusing most particularly on training and<br />

organizational development. It examines how organizations educate and<br />

train employees to achieve organizational goals and objectives.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

Applicants may apply for admission to undergraduate certificate and<br />

degree programs at any time during the year and, if accepted, begin the<br />

program during any one <strong>of</strong> the three semesters. Applicants must<br />

demonstrate the language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency necessary for successful<br />

undergraduate coursework. Applicants must provide evidence <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

30 transferable semester credits upon acceptance including completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> a basic English composition course.<br />

Application Process<br />

Applicants must submit:<br />

1. Completed application form with the nonrefundable application fee<br />

(fee not required for alumni or students seeking readmission or<br />

veterans and active military personnel) and,<br />

2. An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript issued to <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong><br />

from the institution with a minimum <strong>of</strong> 30 semester credits with one<br />

college English course. (An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript is one that is sent or<br />

carried to the university in an envelope sealed by the granting<br />

university. Transcripts from countries other than the U.S. must be<br />

evaluated by a university accepted evaluation source, such as World<br />

Education Services, www.wes.org, or Educational Credential<br />

Evaluators, www.ece.org, and be deemed equivalent to accredited<br />

U.S. university standards.) and,<br />

3. Complete an interview with a program administrator.<br />

Learning, Creativity, and Self-Discovery (3 cr.)<br />

This course presents an overview <strong>of</strong> the important elements <strong>of</strong> the<br />

learning process and explores the integrative relationships among<br />

learning, creativity, and self-discovery. Emphasis is placed on the skills,<br />

knowledge, and attitudes needed to support lifelong and life-wide<br />

learning in a complex world. Learning styles are examined and<br />

assessed. The process <strong>of</strong> reflective writing to connect<br />

experience/informal knowledge, academic study, and personal growth is<br />

also covered.
