Entrepreneurship (2 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: MBA600<br />

This course provides addresses the characteristics <strong>of</strong> contemporary<br />

entrepreneurship. Critical factors in the entrepreneurial business development<br />

process are addressed: identifying new opportunities, financing a new venture,<br />

evaluation <strong>of</strong> a plan from a strategic perspective, and alternative forms for<br />

establishing a business. Lectures, cases, guest lectures by entrepreneurs, and<br />

student projects will be used throughout the course.<br />

Trade Management (2 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: MBA600<br />

This course focuses on the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> management and control <strong>of</strong><br />

the trade function within a firm. It covers the principles and practices <strong>of</strong><br />

exporting and importing from a managerial perspective. Topics include<br />

finding markets, establishing terms <strong>of</strong> sale and financing, the legal<br />

framework <strong>of</strong> exporting and importing, documentation, and risk<br />

assessment.<br />

Economics <strong>of</strong> Emergence, Growth and Development (3 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: MBA604<br />

This course focuses on the theories and realities <strong>of</strong> economic growth<br />

and development for emergent and emerging economies. It examines<br />

the theories <strong>of</strong> economic development and applies them to the cases <strong>of</strong><br />

Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. Topics include<br />

neoclassical growth theory, capital mobility, human capital theories,<br />

globalization, anti-globalization, market transformation, the role <strong>of</strong> social<br />

infrastructure in economic development, the role <strong>of</strong> global institutions,<br />

sustainable economic development and current trends and problems.<br />

Information Technology Management (3 cr.)<br />

Prerequisite: MBA600<br />

This course provides an overview <strong>of</strong> the technological responsibilities <strong>of</strong><br />

a manager in the area <strong>of</strong> finding strategic solution, business process<br />

solutions, project management solutions and technology solutions to<br />

daily business problems. Identification <strong>of</strong> opportunities to apply and<br />

leverage technology and use <strong>of</strong> technology to support and enhance<br />

communication, information gathering, information sharing and data<br />

analysis are covered. The use <strong>of</strong> technology in decision-making, strategy<br />

and attainment <strong>of</strong> competitive advantage is discussed. Other topics<br />

include aligning technology with organizational goals and mission,<br />

metrics and accountability development, vendor selection, needs<br />

assessment, cross function/departmental alignment <strong>of</strong> technology,<br />

project planning and facilitating and technology enhanced/enabled<br />

communication.<br />

Required Capstone Course<br />

MBA750<br />

Capstone Field Study (3 cr.) (Domestic and International)<br />

Prerequisite: All MBA core courses and electives<br />

This course is the program capstone for all MBA students in all Tracks.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s have the real case experience <strong>of</strong> developing a market for a<br />

product or service. Working with sponsoring companies, students assess<br />

the market, the environment, and competitors. Course travel fee will vary<br />

depending on location. <strong>Student</strong>s are expected to travel to the<br />

cooperating institutions site for firsthand assessment. Upon return,<br />

students complete their final report to a panel.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

Applicants may apply for admission to master degree programs at any time<br />

during the year. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree<br />

from a regionally accredited institution and maintained an overall grade<br />

point average <strong>of</strong> 2.75 on a 4.00 scale. Applicants must demonstrate the<br />

language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency necessary for successful graduate coursework. If the<br />

grade point average upon admission is below 2.75, or if a grade point<br />

average is not available, or language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency is not adequate, the<br />

applicant may be admitted with provisional status. <strong>Student</strong>s currently<br />

enrolled in a business related program at <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> may apply<br />

for a transfer to the MBA program via written request. All MBA admission<br />

requirements; including GMAT and program interview, must be fulfilled.<br />

Application Process<br />

Applicants must submit:<br />

1. Completed application form with the nonrefundable application fee (fee<br />

not required for alumni or students seeking readmission or veterans and<br />

active military personnel) and,<br />

2. An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript issued to <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> from<br />

the institution posting the applicant’s completed bachelor’s degree and<br />

other relevant transcripts documenting program pre- requisites and<br />

potential transfer credits. (An <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript is one that is sent or carried<br />

to the university in an envelope sealed by the granting university.<br />

Transcripts from countries other than the U.S. must be evaluated by a<br />

university accepted evaluation source, such as World Education Services,<br />

www.wes.org, or Educational Credential Evaluators, www.ece.org, and be<br />

deemed equivalent to accredited U.S. university standards.) and,<br />

3. A personal statement which includes:<br />

a. brief description <strong>of</strong> the applicant’s background, training, and<br />

experience and,<br />

b. statement indicating the career goals <strong>of</strong> the applicant and his or her<br />

reasons for seeking admission to the program and,<br />

c. description <strong>of</strong> the areas the applicant considers to be his or her<br />

strengths and areas in which the applicant wishes to develop greater<br />

strengths and abilities and,<br />

d. personal information the applicant wishes to share.<br />

4. Letter(s) <strong>of</strong> recommendation that verify pr<strong>of</strong>essional and/or volunteer<br />

experience and academic ability and,<br />

5. A current résumé listing educational background and work<br />

experience and,<br />

6. GMAT score<br />

7. All applicants must complete an interview with a program administrator.
