Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs 5<br />
Since 2000 <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> has expanded bachelor and master<br />
degree programs in the areas <strong>of</strong> business and technology and health and<br />
human services. The education specialist degree was also added.<br />
In 2003, <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> became a partner in higher education<br />
with Dakota County Technical College and Inver Hills Community<br />
College, with a combined location in Apple Valley. The partnership<br />
serves students in the South Metro with opportunities ranging from the<br />
associate degree level to post-master levels. <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> is<br />
currently <strong>of</strong>fering the bachelor degree completion program and master<br />
degree programs.<br />
The ever-changing campus in the Twin Cities also celebrated its 20-year<br />
anniversary in 2004, commemorating two successful decades <strong>of</strong> serving<br />
adult learners in the Twin Cities metropolitan area and beyond. In<br />
addition, the name <strong>of</strong> the school was changed in the spring <strong>of</strong> 2004 to<br />
the School <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs in order to recognize<br />
the growth <strong>of</strong> bachelor degree completion, master degree, certificate,<br />
specialist degree, and doctoral degree programs.<br />
In May <strong>of</strong> 2007, the School <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs<br />
changed its name to the Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
Programs (SGPP) and created four schools; the school <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
programs, the graduate school <strong>of</strong> education, the graduate school <strong>of</strong><br />
business and technology, and the graduate school <strong>of</strong> health and human<br />
services.<br />
The Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs’ Board <strong>of</strong> Regents<br />
was established in 2007 to provide advisory expert counsel to the<br />
President <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> in matters relating to SGPP. The<br />
SGPP Board <strong>of</strong> Regents, established by the President <strong>of</strong> <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> and endorsed by the <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Minnesota</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees, derives its powers solely from the<br />
President to whom it reports.<br />
<strong>Saint</strong> <strong>Mary's</strong> Institute for Lasallian Studies was founded in fall <strong>of</strong> 2008 to<br />
provide Lasallian formation and accompaniment to members <strong>of</strong> the<br />
regional and international Lasallian family.<br />
As <strong>of</strong> 2009, the SGPP celebrates its 25th anniversary <strong>of</strong> providing<br />
education centered around the needs <strong>of</strong> adult learners at its Twin Cities<br />
Campus.<br />
Facilities<br />
<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong>, Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs facilities include those on the Twin Cities campus,<br />
Winona campus, Rochester center, Partners in Higher Education - Apple<br />
Valley center, and Minnetonka center. The university also <strong>of</strong>fers courses<br />
at <strong>of</strong>f-campus instructional sites in <strong>Minnesota</strong> and Wisconsin.<br />
Twin Cities Campus<br />
The Twin Cities campus, established in 1984, is located at 2500 Park<br />
Avenue in Minneapolis. The campus administers four undergraduate<br />
certificate programs, a bachelor degree completion program with twelve<br />
majors, nine graduate certificate programs, 26 master degree programs,<br />
one specialist degree program, two doctoral degree programs, and<br />
several pr<strong>of</strong>essional programs, including graduate continuing education.<br />
Classes are held primarily on evenings and weekends, and flexible class<br />
scheduling allows students to attend school full- or part-time.<br />
Facilities include classrooms, interactive teleconferencing studio<br />
classrooms, the library, writing center, computer facilities, and meeting<br />
space. Administrative <strong>of</strong>fices include those <strong>of</strong> university administration,<br />
program staff, admission, the campus registrar, student services, and<br />
staff.<br />
The 2500 and 2450 Park Avenue buildings <strong>of</strong> the campus are named for<br />
Roman Catholic saints who represent <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong>. The<br />
original facility at 2500 Park is named La Salle Hall after <strong>Saint</strong> John<br />
Baptist de La Salle, the founder <strong>of</strong> the De La Salle Christian Brothers and<br />
the patron saint <strong>of</strong> teachers. The 2450 Park building is named Martin de<br />
Porres Hall after the Dominican Brother who is known as the patron saint<br />
<strong>of</strong> interracial harmony. Mother Teresa Hall at 2440 Park is named after<br />
Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, now known to the world as Mother Teresa.<br />
Mother Teresa founded hundreds <strong>of</strong> clinics, schools, orphanages,<br />
homeless shelters and other projects around the world and is a 1979<br />
Nobel Peace Prize recipient. The 2304 Park Avenue building, named Park<br />
Avenue North, was purchased by the university in the fall <strong>of</strong> 2006 from<br />
the Memorial Blood Center. The university renovated the building to<br />
accommodate the growing need for space.<br />
Winona Campus<br />
<strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> Winona campus is the main<br />
campus and <strong>of</strong>fers both graduate and pr<strong>of</strong>essional programs and a<br />
residential, liberal arts, undergraduate curriculum at its scenic 350-acre<br />
campus. Nine master degree programs, a doctoral program, and seven<br />
certificate programs, and continuing education are <strong>of</strong>fered. The<br />
undergraduate College <strong>of</strong>fers 57 majors divided among the School <strong>of</strong><br />
Humanities and Sciences, the School <strong>of</strong> Business, the School <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Arts, and the School <strong>of</strong> Education.<br />
Rochester Center<br />
The <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> Rochester center was established in 1985<br />
and <strong>of</strong>fers an array <strong>of</strong> programs, based on need and interest, to students<br />
in and around Rochester, <strong>Minnesota</strong>. Located in the Heintz Center <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> Center, it is home to state-<strong>of</strong>-the-art classrooms, computer<br />
facilities and meeting space.<br />
Partners in Higher Education,<br />
Apple Valley Center<br />
Partners in Higher Education began in 2003, in response to the growing<br />
higher education needs in the South Metro area. Housed in the former<br />
Apple Valley City Hall building, the partnership is the result <strong>of</strong> a publicprivate<br />
agreement among Dakota County Technical College, <strong>Saint</strong><br />
Mary’s <strong>University</strong>, and Inver Hills Community College. The Partnership is<br />
dedicated to being a significant educational resource for residents,<br />
businesses, and industries in the area.<br />
Minnetonka Center<br />
Since March <strong>of</strong> 2008, <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> has <strong>of</strong>fered degree<br />
programs at the Minnetonka center. <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> expanded to<br />
the west metro to help meet the needs <strong>of</strong> providing convenient locations<br />
that <strong>of</strong>fer flexible classes for the working adult. The Minnetonka center is<br />
located at 12450 Wayzata Boulevard in Minnetonka's Ridge Plaza<br />
across from Ridgedale center and highway I-394.
