Mission Statement<br />

In the Lasallian spirit <strong>of</strong> faith and zeal, <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s <strong>University</strong> — a global<br />

and diverse learning community — serves students through relevant and<br />

innovative educational programs, experiences, and enterprises. The<br />

university is nourished by its Catholic intellectual, moral, and cultural<br />

traditions and is inspired by excellence in teaching as modeled by <strong>Saint</strong><br />

John Baptist de La Salle, founder <strong>of</strong> the Brothers <strong>of</strong> the Christian Schools.<br />

The hallmark <strong>of</strong> the university is its commitment to serve the needs <strong>of</strong><br />

individual learners and promote life-long learning in a variety <strong>of</strong> contexts:<br />

• The College integrates undergraduate education in the liberal arts<br />

with a residential experience to challenge and support students in<br />

their intellectual, spiritual, personal, and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

• The Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs provides<br />

relevant and rigorous academic experiences for adult learners<br />

through an integration <strong>of</strong> practical, pr<strong>of</strong>essional, and ethical<br />

education <strong>of</strong>fered in dynamic and caring environments.<br />

• Enterprising outreach and consulting programs provide a wide range <strong>of</strong><br />

services that promote individual growth and organizational development.<br />

Accessibility — <strong>Saint</strong> Mary’s is committed to providing education that is<br />

backgrounds. Courses are <strong>of</strong>fered at multiple sites utilizing several different<br />

delivery models to make education available at convenient times and<br />

The Schools <strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs provides relevant<br />

and rigorous academic experiences for adult learners through an<br />

integration <strong>of</strong> practical, pr<strong>of</strong>essional, and ethical education <strong>of</strong>fered in<br />

dynamic and caring environments. The academic program <strong>of</strong> the Schools<br />

<strong>of</strong> Graduate and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Programs <strong>of</strong>fers coursework from the<br />

undergraduate through the doctoral level. The school supports the<br />

individual learning expectations <strong>of</strong> each student and acknowledges the<br />

wealth <strong>of</strong> experience and prior learning that each adult learner brings to<br />

The College integrates undergraduate education in the liberal arts with a<br />

residential experience to challenge and support students in their<br />

intellectual, spiritual, personal, and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development. The<br />

academic program <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong>fers courses in general education,<br />

including required core and elective courses, and in a disciplinary major<br />

<strong>of</strong> the student’s choice. The co-curricular program <strong>of</strong> the College<br />

provides students with opportunities for positive community participation,<br />

faith-formation, service, and athletic competition. This educational<br />

programming produces graduates who:<br />

• are competent in a major;<br />

• have acquired a breadth <strong>of</strong> knowledge and exposure to approaches<br />

to understanding the human condition;<br />

• have developed skills for life-long learning; and<br />

• possess a Lasallian disposition toward leadership and service.
