3.8 Cultural specificities in the <strong>Euro</strong>-<strong>Mediterranean</strong><br />

region: uni<strong>for</strong>mity versus diversity<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Euro</strong>-<strong>Mediterranean</strong> countries individually and the “<strong>Euro</strong>-<strong>Mediterranean</strong>” as a region<br />

are culturally rich, encompassing a variety of religious, linguistic, national and ethnic<br />

groups. Cultural specificities not only change from one country to another but also<br />

within the different cultural circles within the same country or region. Each circle would<br />

also have its own specificities and cultural elements that distinguish it from another.<br />

Still, the <strong>Mediterranean</strong> states, whether north or south, also share many common cultural<br />

aspects that have been <strong>for</strong>med by geographical proximity and a similar ecological<br />
