<strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Wilmington</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> automobiles and/or boats in the front, side or rear yard areas may be permitted<br />

provided the minimum setback applicable to parking lots is met and all other side and<br />

rear setbacks are met. If the storage and/or display <strong>of</strong> boats and autos are adjacent to<br />

residentially zoned property occupied by a residential use or a platted residential lot,<br />

then storage or display shall be screened from view <strong>of</strong> the residential use on lot.<br />

(e) Outside storage. Outside storage can be permitted if it is located directly to the<br />

rear <strong>of</strong> the principal building and is not visible from any location along the designated<br />

highway. The outside storage area shall not occupy an area wider than the principal<br />

building or larger than one-half (1/2) the area <strong>of</strong> the principal building. The outside<br />

storage area must be screened with a buffer strip in accordance with Article 8,<br />

Division VII. No storage shall be permitted above the height <strong>of</strong> the screen. Junkyards<br />

and scrap processors shall not be permitted.<br />

(f) Parking and loading.<br />

(1) Parking and loading shall be provided in accordance with the provisions set forth<br />

in Article 9. All loading shall be from the side or rear <strong>of</strong> the principal structure as<br />

viewed from the designated highway. If loading is performed on the side <strong>of</strong> the<br />

building, as viewed from the designated highway, a planted buffer strip in accordance<br />

with Article 8, Division VII <strong>of</strong> this chapter shall be provided.<br />

(2) No vehicular or equipment parking except automobile parking shall be permitted<br />

in the yard area adjacent to the designated highway. All automobile parking shall be<br />

set back at least one hundred (100) feet from the right-<strong>of</strong>-way <strong>of</strong> the designated<br />

highway if such highway is an interstate or thoroughfare with controlled access.<br />

Other U.S. and N.C. numbered highways shall require a fifty-foot setback for<br />

automobile parking.<br />

(g) Lot coverage. The total ground area covered by principal buildings and all<br />

accessory buildings shall not exceed fifty (50) percent <strong>of</strong> the site.<br />

(h) Signs. Signs shall be in accordance with the sign ordinance except that only one<br />

(1) freestanding sign not to exceed six (6) feet in height and a maximum surface area<br />

<strong>of</strong> one hundred and fifty (150) square feet may be permitted within the one hundred<br />

(100) foot setback. No outdoor advertising signs shall be permitted.<br />
