6) Is the proposed well density less than or equal to the well density in the previously<br />
approved area?<br />
Select YES if the proposed well density is less than or equal to the well density in the previously<br />
approved area.<br />
Select NO if the proposed well density is greater than the well density in the previously approved<br />
area.<br />
7) Does each proposed holding/unit contain production data in the applied-<strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>for</strong>mation(s)/pool(s)?<br />
Select YES if each holding or unit has at least one well with enough production history to allow<br />
<strong>for</strong> the submission of volumetric reserves data that can clearly support the need <strong>for</strong> the requested<br />
special well spacing in the applied-<strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>mation(s) or pool(s). Additional production <strong>and</strong><br />
volumetric reserves in<strong>for</strong>mation from producing wells in surrounding areas should also be<br />
included to fully support an application. Large areas of application containing production <strong>and</strong><br />
volumetric data from only a limited number of wells maybe considered premature <strong>and</strong> could be<br />
closed.<br />
In areas where limited production data is available the applicant must provide geological<br />
evidence to demonstrate the resource being present throughout the entire area of application <strong>and</strong><br />
the quality of the reservoir (i.e. geological cross sections, geological analysis <strong>and</strong> structural <strong>and</strong><br />
net pay isopach mapping).<br />
Select NO if any proposed holding does not contain production data in the applied-<strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>for</strong>mation(s)/pool(s).<br />
8) Is the density of the oil 920 kg/m 3 or greater at 15ºC?<br />
Heavy oil, as defined in <strong>Directive</strong> 017: Measurement Requirements <strong>for</strong> Upstream <strong>Oil</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Gas</strong><br />
Operations, is “crude oil production with a density of 920 kg/m 3 or greater at 15ºC.” This crude<br />
oil density incorporates most of the areas of east-central Alberta, where heavy oil production<br />
operations normally occur. Heavy oil development typically requires higher well densities to<br />
maximize recovery.<br />
Select YES if the application is <strong>for</strong> heavy oil. You must attach a Fluid Analysis that contains an<br />
analysis of the native reservoir fluid, which includes the density of the oil. If the proposed well<br />
density is >2 wells per pool per quarter but does not exceed 4 wells per pool per quarter section,<br />
the application will be registered in the nonst<strong>and</strong>ard processing path. However, upon registration,<br />
it will be reviewed <strong>for</strong> the appropriate processing pathway <strong>and</strong> may qualify as a st<strong>and</strong>ard path<br />
application.<br />
Select NO if the application is not <strong>for</strong> heavy oil.<br />
9) Enter the proposed well density.<br />
All holding/unit applications must propose a well density. Well density is defined as the number<br />
of wells per pool per area. Enter the well density <strong>and</strong> then select the well density area. Possible<br />
well density areas are<br />
• 1 Legal Subdivision<br />
• 2 Legal Subdivisions<br />
• 1 Quarter Section<br />
• 1 Half Section<br />
