Tips for raising disease- free nursery<br />

• Nursery site should be away from the citrus orchards.<br />

• Always use fresh seeds extracted from healthy fruits <strong>and</strong> sow in trays <strong>under</strong> shade<br />

conditions for better germination<br />

• Seed trays must be kept at least 1.5- 2.0’ above the ground to avoid soil borne<br />

contamination.<br />

• Only nucellar seedlings should be selected for further growth.<br />

• Seedlings with bent <strong>and</strong> twisted tap root system should be discarded<br />

• Too long taproot should be cut to ensure the straight penetration <strong>of</strong> root in soil.<br />

• Bud wood should be taken from disease free selected <strong>and</strong> certified elite mother plants <strong>of</strong><br />

known pedigree.<br />

• High budding not less than 9” <strong>of</strong> height should be done.<br />

• Sterilized knife with alcohol or sodium hypo chloride should be used for budding <strong>and</strong> it<br />

should regularly be washed with surface disinfectant.<br />

• Bud wood should be selected from fairly well mature non-bearing shoots <strong>of</strong> current year<br />

growth from selected plants.<br />

• Selected mother plants should be monitored regularly for diseases.<br />
