1. <strong>Leechdoms</strong> for blotch <strong>and</strong> baths. Fifteen in all.<br />

2. Boil the netherward part <strong>of</strong> helenium <strong>and</strong> mint<br />

in the runnings <strong>of</strong> salt, that it be as thick as brewit,<br />

min<strong>of</strong>le together, smear therewith. Against blotch, take<br />

the netherward part <strong>of</strong> helenium, <strong>and</strong> so also <strong>of</strong> dock<br />

(that which will swim), <strong>and</strong> ontre, <strong>and</strong> bishopwort,<br />

<strong>and</strong> ash rind, seethe in butter, strain through a cloth,<br />

then mingle with pepper <strong>and</strong> with tar, grind these,<br />

smear therewith. For blotch, boil helenium in butter,<br />

mingle with soot, salt, tar, honey, old soap, smear<br />

therewith. For blotch, take goose grease <strong>and</strong> the<br />

netherward part <strong>of</strong> helenium <strong>and</strong> vipers bugloss, bishopwort<br />

<strong>and</strong> hayrife, pound the four worts together well,<br />

wring them, add thereto <strong>of</strong> old soap a spoon full, if thou<br />

have it, mingle a little oil with them thoroughly, <strong>and</strong><br />

at night lather on. Scarify the neck after the setting<br />

<strong>of</strong> the sun, pour in silence the blood into running<br />

water, after that spit three times, then say, " Have<br />

thou this unheal, <strong>and</strong> depart away with it ;" go again on<br />

a clean way to the house, <strong>and</strong> go either way in silence.<br />
