Against palsy ; take a cup full <strong>of</strong> boiling water,<br />

another <strong>of</strong> oil, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> white salt so much as one may<br />

pick up with four fingers ; shake together till that it<br />

be all one : drink all this by drops, rest awhile, poke<br />

thy finger into the gullet, spew up again all <strong>and</strong> more<br />

if thou ^ may ; then in the morning let blood from the<br />

arm or from the neck, as much as he ' may bear ; <strong>and</strong><br />

scarify <strong>and</strong> let him put something on, then after all<br />

smear with hot oil <strong>and</strong> let him taste a trifle <strong>of</strong> salt;<br />

employ gladden <strong>and</strong> everfern picked high up on the<br />

tree, <strong>and</strong> cover over with nesh wool all the scarifications<br />

when they have been smeared. Against "neurisn"<br />

put bonewort into sour cream, <strong>and</strong> into honey,<br />

mingle together with this the yolk <strong>of</strong> an egg, smear<br />

therewith. Again, pound up earthworms, apply them.<br />

Ix.<br />

1. Against a burn work a salve; take goats tord <strong>and</strong><br />

halm <strong>of</strong> wheat, burn them to dust, mingle both with<br />

butter, put into a pan over the fire, boil thoroughly<br />

well, strain through a cloth, smear therewith.<br />

2. For a burn, take some <strong>of</strong> the netherward part <strong>of</strong><br />

fennel, beat it up with old grease, <strong>and</strong> lay on. Again,<br />

take lilly <strong>and</strong> yarrow, boil them in butter, smear<br />

therewith. For the same, boil ribwort in butter <strong>and</strong><br />

smear therewith.<br />

3. For that ilk, boil yarrow in butter, smear therewith.<br />

4. For th^t ilk, boil mallow in sheeps grease, <strong>and</strong><br />

attorlothe, <strong>and</strong> everfern, put them into honey or into<br />

wax. For that same, put the white <strong>of</strong> an egg on<br />

frequently.<br />
