xvii. Leech crafts <strong>of</strong> the various nature <strong>and</strong> disorders<br />

<strong>of</strong> the liver, <strong>and</strong> how it is extended on the right side<br />

as far as the pit <strong>of</strong> the belly, <strong>and</strong> how it is five lobed,<br />

<strong>and</strong> how it is the material <strong>and</strong> home <strong>of</strong> blood ;<br />

<strong>and</strong> that six things work acute pain in the liver, <strong>and</strong><br />

the cure <strong>of</strong> all these, <strong>and</strong> a plain token <strong>of</strong> them all,<br />

either by the urine, or by loss <strong>of</strong> appetite, or by<br />

tJie mans complexion, <strong>and</strong> l^y many other tokens.<br />

xviii. Leeches teach this leechdom for swelling <strong>and</strong><br />

puffing up <strong>of</strong> the liver.<br />

xix. Leeches speak <strong>of</strong> these tokens <strong>of</strong> a swollen <strong>and</strong><br />

wounded liver; <strong>and</strong> leechdoms for that; <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> hardening<br />

<strong>of</strong> the<br />

liver.<br />

XX. Leeches teach this for wound <strong>of</strong> the liver, when<br />

the swelling or matter bursteth forth.<br />

xxi. <strong>Leechdoms</strong> <strong>and</strong> tokens <strong>of</strong> a hardened <strong>and</strong> })uffed<br />

up liver in manifold wise, either in the lobes, or in<br />

the margins, or in the membranes, or in the hollows,<br />

<strong>of</strong> the liver.<br />

xxii. <strong>Leechdoms</strong> for the sense <strong>of</strong> hardness <strong>of</strong> the<br />

liver, <strong>and</strong> salves, <strong>and</strong> wort drinks, or if it burst <strong>and</strong><br />

descend downwards or mounteth up upwards,^ or if<br />

the insensibility <strong>and</strong> hardness <strong>of</strong> the liver become too<br />

prolonged.<br />
