Ixviii.<br />

A light drink tor the wood heart ; lupin, bishopwort,<br />

enchanters nightshade, helenium, cropleek, hindheal,<br />

ontre, elote. Take these worts when day <strong>and</strong><br />

night divide ; sing first in church a litany, <strong>and</strong> a<br />

Credo, <strong>and</strong> a Pater noster, with the song go to the<br />

worts, go thrice around them, before thou touch them ;<br />

<strong>and</strong> go again to church, sing twelve masses over the<br />

worts when thou hast poured —<br />

Ixix.<br />

1. If a mans stomach be soured <strong>and</strong> swollen ; take<br />

holly leaves, two mickle Ii<strong>and</strong>s full, scrape them very<br />

small, boil them in milk till they be pretty tender, pick<br />

them out by a bit at a time ; then let the man eat six<br />

bits,<br />

in a morning three, <strong>and</strong> in evening three, <strong>and</strong> after<br />

his meat. Thus do for nine days, longer if need be.<br />

2. If a man be swollen, let him cat rue <strong>and</strong> drink<br />

it ; he will be well.<br />

3. For pain <strong>of</strong> maw ;<br />

let the man taste at night<br />

fasting, seed <strong>of</strong> rue, <strong>and</strong> quicksilver, <strong>and</strong> vinegar.<br />

Agaui, rub pulegium into vinegar <strong>and</strong> into<br />

water, give<br />

the man to drink, soon the soreness glideth away.<br />

Ixx.<br />

1. For wamb wark ; drench in pulegium, <strong>and</strong><br />

let him drink it <strong>and</strong> bind some to his navel, <strong>and</strong> let<br />

him earnestly beware that the wort do not glide<br />

away. Soon he will be well.<br />
