<strong>of</strong> bacon three : do that for three days or nine.<br />

1. For an emetic ;<br />

six grains <strong>of</strong> aloes, thirty <strong>of</strong> libcorns,<br />

<strong>and</strong> the netherward part <strong>of</strong> great wort, wherwe<br />

it hight, dry it in the sun, <strong>and</strong> elder rind, the netherward<br />

part, dry it also, <strong>and</strong> triturate it very small, add<br />

half a bowl <strong>of</strong> ale, <strong>and</strong> sweeten with honey, add a<br />

little butter, <strong>and</strong> a little pepper, <strong>and</strong> heat the ale, <strong>and</strong><br />

add a little salt. Again, wormwood, <strong>and</strong> helenium, but<br />

less <strong>of</strong> it ; let them st<strong>and</strong> for two nights in ale, then<br />

let the man drink. Again, gladden, hove, float wort,<br />

pound these in ale, <strong>and</strong> sweeten it, then let the man<br />

drink.<br />

If a man strain himself overmuch to spew, after<br />

a spew drink is past <strong>of</strong>lf from him, take some fat flesh,<br />

give him two slices. A weak emetic drink; helenium,<br />
