Again, a leeclidom whicli draweth out the evil from<br />

the milt, <strong>and</strong> which is efficacious for many other disorders.<br />

Take green rue one day before it is uned,<br />

collect it <strong>and</strong> a moderate quantity <strong>of</strong> pepper, so much<br />

also <strong>of</strong> cummin, or more., put the cummin one day<br />

beforeh<strong>and</strong>, or two or three, into vinegar, dry it <strong>and</strong><br />

rub to dust all the worts, mingle iliis with honey<br />

strained, then put tliem into a glass })itcher, <strong>and</strong> so<br />

give the maii a spoon full. This is good against \ipblowing<br />

<strong>of</strong> the maw <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> the inwards ; it raaketh<br />

neshthewamb; it thinneth the corrupt gastric juices,<br />

it doth away breakings, <strong>and</strong> breast disease, <strong>and</strong> side<br />

])ain, <strong>and</strong> liver disorder, <strong>and</strong> loin pain, <strong>and</strong> milt pain :<br />

all that it lightenetli,<br />

<strong>Leechdoms</strong> <strong>and</strong> strong drink for a swollen milt ; cool<br />

thou a fiercely hot iron, when it is just withdrawn from<br />

the fire, in wine or in vinegar, give the man that to<br />

drink. Thou may est also give that to them who liave<br />

a hard body : notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing, this drink shall not<br />

be given in the <strong>early</strong> stage <strong>of</strong> the ache <strong>and</strong> the disease,<br />

but after<br />

Here are leechdoms for sore <strong>of</strong> either side, <strong>and</strong> tokens<br />

how the disease approaches, <strong>and</strong> how a man may underst<strong>and</strong><br />

that, <strong>and</strong> how a man shall treat it. These leechdoms<br />

shall be done for sore <strong>of</strong> side, <strong>and</strong> these are the<br />
