<strong>the</strong> local communities but to corporations and cities. The high<br />

speed jobs rarely go to people. They go to people who are out<br />

of town. The low-skilled lower-paid jobs also don't increase<br />

local employment but ra<strong>the</strong>r poach <strong>from</strong> our industries having<br />

impact on o<strong>the</strong>r industries in <strong>the</strong> area.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> same<br />

time, <strong>the</strong> costs are usually significantly undervalued. Million<br />

of dollars in tax payers subsidies going to subsidize all <strong>the</strong><br />

companies, going to subsidize <strong>the</strong> fuel costs and several tax<br />

breaks <strong>for</strong> corporations.<br />

All of this comes at a cost to our environment and our<br />

communities. At <strong>the</strong> -- along <strong>the</strong> tracks, with <strong>the</strong> ships in <strong>the</strong><br />

shipping lanes, and I urge you to consider <strong>the</strong> full scope of<br />

<strong>the</strong> issues in front of you and entertain consideration of how<br />

<strong>the</strong>se impact.<br />

THE SPEAKER: How are you, brave sitters? And hello<br />

to all of you too. I actually want first to say -- oh, my name<br />

is Brooks Anderson, and I live in Whatcom County.<br />

I first want to address what I found outside this<br />

morning be<strong>for</strong>e you let us in. I was putting up signs opposing<br />

<strong>the</strong> coal terminal, and I had several young men swear at me and<br />

tell me take those signs down. After that I -- <strong>the</strong>n four or<br />

five carloads of <strong>the</strong> proponents of <strong>the</strong> terminal came by and put
