GATEWAY PACIFIC TERMINAL EIS SCOPING HEARING VOL. II
COURT REPORTER: BETH DRUMMOND PROCEEDING DATE: October 27, 2012
Page 136
and increased coal trains will happen, and all we need to do
is negotiate compensation for the endless list of negative
impacts.
As far as this meeting, for the city of 80,000,
size, is a futile exercise that deceptively gives the
illusion that our community has some voice in a done deal.
There is no compensation for the price to be paid
for the immense corporate profit projected at our expense.
And of all future generations to follow, I might add.
Have we learned nothing from the recent financial
crises? Large corporations to power companies, privatize
their profits, and find a way to socialize their losses.
Big money wins every time. This scoping process,
with all due respect, is a pretense of interest in public
opinion. Projected corporate profit trumps whatever
negative impacts we enumerate from local to global.
Let's not forget that the one and only goal of
this entire Gateway Pacific enterprise is massive corporate
profit at any price.
MS. STRAUSZ-CLARK: You may wave your hands,
please. No applause. Thank you.
No. 92, 93, and 94. 92 you're at the microphone.
Please state your name for the record.
THE SPEAKER: This is John Neighbor, Bellingham,
Washington.
