trains move at a crawl as <strong>the</strong>y pass our property.<br />

So <strong>from</strong> a strictly financial perspective, we believe<br />

<strong>the</strong> constant traffic will make our area less desirable and<br />

decrease our property values.<br />

Most importantly, of course, is <strong>the</strong> coal. It's been a<br />

controversy. A great deal of justified attention has been<br />

given to <strong>the</strong> coal, but little attention to <strong>the</strong> impact on county<br />

families.<br />

They say coal is good <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> health of <strong>the</strong> people.<br />

Despite <strong>the</strong> financial gains, please think about <strong>the</strong> noise and<br />

<strong>the</strong> heavy rail traffic. The 18 potential trains a day, <strong>the</strong>y<br />

will not be quiet.<br />

This is not a county versus city perspective. This is<br />

something that affects all of us. We hope o<strong>the</strong>rs understand<br />

that as Whatcom County residents, if <strong>the</strong> port goes through, we<br />

will all be affected.<br />
