COURT REPORTER: BETH DRUMMOND PROCEEDING DATE: October 27, 2012
On top of that I would really want to request
that the recreationalist impacts are looked at because the
coal trains will block off access to the water for large
amounts of time, as well as the increased vessel traffic
will also impact things like whale watching and kayaking and
other recreational sports, and fishing included in that.
I also would like to -- as a toxicologist, like
the fugitive coal dust to be looked at, and alternatively,
the surfactants that could be sprayed on top of the coal
dust. It's been known that surfactants can be extremely
toxic, especially to the aquatic organisms -- and it's been
stated that -- or ground up, it will be ten times more toxic
when surfactants are present than when the more active
ingredients are present. So I would really appreciate that
if that were accounted for in the EIS.
Additionally, I would like the EIS to look at the
cumulative impacts of all the different proposals that are
out there for the other coal expert terminals, as well as
the increased local traffic and how that would potentially
impact this because just looking at this one project
proposal isn't enough when we know that there's other things
that could interact on top of that.
So thank you so much for your time.
MS. STRAUSZ-CLARK: 21, 22, 23. 21 you're at the
microphone. 22 and 23 you're at the desk.
