The good news is I told <strong>the</strong>m that maybe <strong>the</strong> Chinese<br />

can take <strong>the</strong> cheap energy and replace <strong>the</strong> product <strong>the</strong>y're<br />

currently making down in Skagit County.<br />

The Port of Seattle complains about being blocked by<br />

traffic <strong>from</strong> a basketball arena, but this would be many more<br />

times more impactful to <strong>the</strong>m at <strong>the</strong> cost of very many good jobs<br />

<strong>the</strong>re.<br />

I want all of <strong>the</strong>se things examined and understood how<br />

we're going to mitigate those.<br />

It's going to effect economic development in this<br />

community where we believe in sustainability and we've built a<br />

reputation <strong>for</strong> that, and this will destroy that reputation at<br />

<strong>the</strong> expense of future companies choosing to be here or not.<br />

In addition, this puts at risk a lot of our existing<br />

industries. There's going to be over a thousand tankers a<br />

year. There's over a thousand tankers a year now going through<br />

<strong>the</strong> straits that are now going to be impacted by <strong>the</strong>se cargo<br />

bulkers that have very little maneuverability, and <strong>the</strong>y're<br />

damaging, potentially putting us one accident away, one<br />

disaster away, <strong>from</strong> harm to industry, fishing and crabbing, and<br />

harm to our native culture.<br />

So to sum up, I want to see a programmatic study<br />

examining all impacts; I want to identify and require full<br />

mitigation to all negative impacts; I want to look at a full<br />

range of alternatives such as, <strong>for</strong> example, wind power, which
