of tons of coal annually to Cherry Point will result in<br />

millions of tons of greenhouse gas.<br />

Please study <strong>the</strong> impacts of those greenhouse gas<br />

emissions on <strong>the</strong> ongoing acidification of <strong>the</strong> north Pacific,<br />

which affects <strong>the</strong> salmon, <strong>the</strong> shellfish in our waters.<br />

Please study likely to contribute to change in<br />

temperatures and rainfall and <strong>the</strong>ir impact on <strong>the</strong> health of our<br />

<strong>for</strong>est.<br />

Please study transport, particularly issues <strong>from</strong> coal<br />

burned in China and its impact on our regional air quality in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Pacific Northwest.<br />

The scale of <strong>the</strong> coal project proposed at Cherry Point<br />

ensures it will have environmental impact. Washingtonians are<br />

no more isolated <strong>from</strong> what happens in China. For this EIS to<br />

be successful, it must address <strong>the</strong> long-term regional and<br />

global environmental impacts.<br />

For <strong>the</strong>se reasons, I respectfully request that <strong>the</strong><br />

Army Corps include Cherry Point in <strong>the</strong>ir regional, o<strong>the</strong>r coal<br />

export facilities proposed <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> northwest. Washingtonians<br />

deserve to know <strong>the</strong> coal port putting our fisheries at greater<br />

risk. And whe<strong>the</strong>r putting our <strong>for</strong>ests at greater risk is worth<br />

it <strong>for</strong> greenhouse gas climate change.<br />
