Since 2002 Neil has worked full time on the <strong>development</strong><strong>and</strong> promotion of anti-corruption measures in thesesectors. Heis also the President of the Central Executive Committee ofthe World <strong>Engineering</strong> Congress <strong>and</strong> Exhibition ‘<strong>Engineering</strong>2010-Argentina’ in Buenos Aires in October 2010.Susan ThomasSusan Thomas is an Associate Director of Arup in the UK, <strong>and</strong>is the lead researcher on urbanization <strong>for</strong> the Arup Drivers ofChange research-based publication. This was developed as aplanning tool to help Arup <strong>and</strong> its clients identify <strong>and</strong> exploreleading factors that will affect our world. The publication consistsof a series of cards based on themes including energy,waste, climate change, water, demographics, urbanization <strong>and</strong>poverty.Leiataua Tom TinaiLeiataua Tom Tinai has a degree from the University of NewSouth Wales <strong>and</strong> over 30 experience in civil <strong>and</strong> structuralengineering. He is the Vice-President of the Institute of ProfessionalEngineers in Samoa (IPES), a member of Engineers Australia,is the CEO <strong>and</strong> co-owns Gordon <strong>and</strong> Associates – a civil<strong>and</strong> structural engineering consulting company in Samoa. Tomwas also elected the inaugural President of the newly <strong>for</strong>medSouth Pacific Engineers Association or SPEA – established inMarch 2010 with membership from Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, CookIsl<strong>and</strong>s, Papua New Guinea <strong>and</strong> Samoa, <strong>and</strong> strong supportfrom New Zeal<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Australia.Kalanithy VairavamoorthyProfessor Vairavamoorthy has a PhD in Environmental <strong>and</strong>Water Resources <strong>Engineering</strong>, an MSc in Environmental <strong>Engineering</strong><strong>and</strong> degree in Civil <strong>Engineering</strong>, <strong>and</strong> is a CharteredEngineer <strong>and</strong> Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK).Prof. Vairavamoorthy holds the Chair of Water <strong>Engineering</strong> atthe University of Birmingham in the UK, a Chair appointmentat UNESCO-IHE (20%) <strong>and</strong> at the Technical University of Delft(zero-appointment) in the Water Management Group. Prof.Vairavamoorthy is the Scientific Director of SWITCH, an EUIntegrated Project <strong>for</strong> Sustainable Urban Water Management,worth €25 million. SWITCH is one of the largest EU researchprojects in the area of water.Charles VestCharles “Chuck” Vest has BS, MS <strong>and</strong> PhD degrees in mechanicalengineering. He is the President of the National Academyof <strong>Engineering</strong> <strong>and</strong> was President of MIT from 1990 to 2004.Prior to his ascension to the MIT presidency, he served as theprovost <strong>and</strong> professor of mechanical engineering at the Universityof Michigan. His interests include science, technology<strong>and</strong> innovation policy, building partnerships between universities,government <strong>and</strong> industry, <strong>and</strong> championing the importanceof open communication <strong>and</strong> cooperation in science<strong>and</strong> engineering – the MIT OpenCourseWare initiative waslaunched during his tenure, <strong>and</strong> he co-founded the Alliance<strong>for</strong> Global Sustainability.386
