SECTION 6: VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT6.12 FLOODIn order to assess flood risk, a GIS-based analysis was used to estimate exposure to flood events usingFEMA’s preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) data in combination with local taxassessor records (2009). The determination of assessed value at-risk (exposure) was calculated usingGIS analysis by summing the total assessed building values for improved properties that wereconfirmed to be located within an identified Zone A/AE (100-year floodplain), Zone VE (100-yearcoastal flood zone, associated with wave action), and Zone X (500-year floodplain).It is important to note that Volusia County is currently in the process of updating their flood maps,which are scheduled to be completed by 2011.
