SECTION 5: HAZARD PROFILESSECTION 5 – HAZARD PROFILES44 CFR Requirement44 CFR Part 201.6(c)(2)(i):The risk assessment shall include a description of the type, location and extent of all natural hazardsthat can affect the jurisdiction. The plan shall include information on previous occurrences of hazardevents and on the probability of future hazard events.5.1 OVERVIEWThis section includes detailed hazard profiles for each of the hazards identified in the previous section assignificant enough for further evaluation through the risk assessment in <strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong>. This includesthe following natural hazards: Atmospheric Hail Hurricane and Tropical Storm Lightning Severe Winter Storm Thunderstorm Tornado Hydrologic Coastal Erosion Drought Flood Storm Surge Geologic Sinkhole Tsunami Other WildfireEach hazard profile described in this section includes a general description of the hazard, its location andextent, notable historical occurrences and the probability of future occurrences. It also includes specificitems noted by members of the <strong>Local</strong> Mitigation Strategy Working Group (<strong>LMS</strong> Working Group) as itrelates to unique historical or anecdotal hazard information for <strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong> or a particularjurisdiction. The probability of future occurrence is expressed as “high” (expected to occur at least everyfive years), “moderate” (expected to occur at least every 25 years), “low” (expected to occur at leastevery 100 years, and “very low” (is possible to occur, despite their being no recorded occurrences).<strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong> Multi-jurisdictional <strong>Local</strong> Mitigation StrategyFebruary 20105:1
