jurisdictions, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and theFederal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).c) Participating Jurisdictions will actively participate in the planning process and<strong>mitigation</strong> <strong>strategy</strong> development, attend <strong>LMS</strong> Working Group meetings; providefeedback, conduct a review and provide comments on the draft <strong>LMS</strong> update, andadopt the <strong>LMS</strong>.5) Getting StartedLisa Flax, PBS&J Project Manager, facilitated the exchange of information for the<strong>LMS</strong> update.a) The <strong>LMS</strong> Working Group identified additional stakeholders to be included in theplanning process.b) The <strong>LMS</strong> Working Group was asked to identify and provide any new data, plans,studies and reports.c) The proposed <strong>LMS</strong> Update Outline was presented and discussed.d) The <strong>LMS</strong> Working Group discussed which hazards to update <strong>LMS</strong>. The hazardsvulnerability assessment will be conducted for natural hazards.e) Each jurisdiction was asked to update their hazards ranking, entitled the“Comparison of Jurisdictional Relative Risk” (from 2004 <strong>LMS</strong>). Some providedupdates at the meeting and the rest will submit their hazards ranking for inclusionin the update.6) Next Stepsa) Data collection efforts will continue. Existing data has been identified on<strong>Volusia</strong>.org and at the <strong>County</strong>.b) A public outreach meeting was conducted on June 4, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. inDaytona Beach.c) The Capability Assessment will be conducted to determine existing plans andresources in place that support hazard <strong>mitigation</strong>.d) All jurisdictions will update the status on their Mitigation Initiativese) The next Mitigation Strategy meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2009.7) Questions, Issues or Concerns• Include impacts from the hazard events that have occurred over the past fiveyears (e.g., tornadoes, flooding, wildfire and heavy rains).• All hazard <strong>mitigation</strong> techniques will be considered for <strong>mitigation</strong> initiatives by thejurisdictions.• Include hazard <strong>mitigation</strong> successes in the update. Emphasize how projects havebenefited the citizens in <strong>Volusia</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Include that most of the funding hasbeen local.• It was questioned whether the <strong>mitigation</strong> action submittal process could bestreamlined.2
