102 Academic Regulations• A student who is absent from a class for two consecutive weeks may be dropped from thecourse with a grade of F unless adequate notice is given during the course of the absence.Notification must be given to the instructor or to the Provost and Vice President for AcademicAffairs. Excessive absences from several classes can result in the student’s being administrativelywithdrawn from the <strong>College</strong>.• Any unexcused absence taken on the last class of any course before an official break, orthe first class of any course following an official break, will be counted as a double cut.• All absences, excused or unexcused, are recorded and can affect the student’s grades.Access to Student RecordsThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords the student certain rights withrespect to student records. They are:• The right to inspect and review one’s own educational records.• The right to request the amendment of one’s own education records to ensure that they arenot inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the right to privacy or other rights.• The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in one’sown education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.• The right to file with the U.S. Department of Education a complaint concerning allegedfailures by the <strong>College</strong> to comply with the requirements of FERPA.• The right to obtain a copy of the <strong>College</strong>’s student record policy. A copy of the policy maybe obtained from the Office of the Registrar.FERPA also gives the <strong>College</strong> the right to disclose directory information without the student’spermission. Directory information may include name, address, telephone number, date and placeof birth, major fields of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, awardsreceived, most recent educational institution attended, religious affiliation and other similarinformation, as defined by the <strong>College</strong>, which would not generally be considered harmful to thestudent, or an invasion of the student’s privacy.If a student does not wish such directory information to be released, the student must file a requestto prevent disclosure of directory information with the Office of the Registrar. This request must beon file within 30 days of the first day of class during the semester of initial enrollment and must berefiled annually thereafter.Under FERPA the <strong>College</strong> retains the right to disclose personally identifiable information to thosedeemed to have a legitimate educational interest in the student’s records. These include, but arenot limited to authorized representatives of state and federal audit agencies, school officials,accrediting organizations carrying out their accrediting functions, the Department of VeteransAffairs, officials at other educational institutions to which the student may be planning to transfer,
