55 Financial AidThe Eric W. Sellers Endowed Scholarship was established in 2005 by the Medic EducationalFoundation to honor Eric’s lifelong commitment to education. The scholarship is available toentering freshmen and is awarded on the basis of academic ability, extracurricular activities, andleadership potential. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students and maintain satisfactoryprogress toward a degree to retain the scholarship during their freshmen year. The selection ofthe student will be made by the Office of Admissions.The Pete and Sarah Sellers Endowed Scholarship was established by Eric and Pam Sellersin honor of Eric’s parents, Pete and Sarah. The scholarship is renewable and awarded annually to astudent majoring in religion and philosophy and/or a student in need of financial assistance.The Richard Washington Shackleford and Ruby Paschall Shackleford MemorialEndowed Scholarship was established by Mrs. Ruby Paschall Shackleford in memory ofher husband. The scholarship recipient will be selected in the spring by a scholarship selectioncommittee, chaired by the Director of Financial Aid. The scholarship recipient shall be a full-timefreshman actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, majoring in English. Therecipient must have a 2.50 GPA on a 4.00 scale or an equivalent academic record upon graduationfrom high school and must maintain a 2.50 GPA throughout his/her education at the <strong>College</strong>.Good citizenship and school activities should be considered. The scholarship award shall be for oneacademic year and may be renewed on an annual basis until graduation.The John A. Shanks Endowed Scholarship was established in his honor, by his wife,Yvonne E. Shanks. The earnings from the John A. Shanks Endowed Scholarship Fund are tobe used to support <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> undergraduate student(s) with financial need. The endowedscholarship is to be awarded annually to one or more <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> students. The student mustbe at least a sophomore with a <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> GPA of 3.20. Preference shall be given to School ofBusiness majors with financial need. The endowed scholarship will be awarded by the School ofBusiness Department.The Robert Sharpe Family Endowment Fund was established by Robert F. “Bobby” Sharpeand his wife, Anne Morgan Sharpe. The generosity of this entire Sharpe Family has provided thefunding for this academic award. This scholarship is to be awarded to a Wilson County studentdemonstrating outstanding leadership and academics. The candidate must have a minimum 2.50GPA. The award is to be made by the Office of Financial Aid.The Lell and Ray Silverthorne Scholarship was established by Dr. Silverthorne ’41, and hiswife, to provide financial aid to students of the <strong>College</strong>. The recipient is selected by the Office ofFinancial Aid.The Roger P.K. Sin Endowed Scholarship was established through the generosity of a 1968graduate, Roger P.K. Sin. The scholarship is to be awarded to a religion and philosophy majorat <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong>. The student must have a minimum 2.50 GPA and demonstrate outstandingleadership abilities.
