7 AdmissionsADMISSIONSAdmission to <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> is competitive. The <strong>College</strong> seeks students from avariety of backgrounds who can contribute to and benefit from the <strong>College</strong>’s manyscholastic and extracurricular programs. <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> admits students on thebasis of individual merit following a careful review of their academic and personalqualifications. <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to refuse admission or re-admission toany student who, in the opinion of the Admissions Committee, does not possess theability to contribute positively to the campus community. Admission to the <strong>College</strong>does not guarantee entry into or successful completion of any particular program orcourse of study.<strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not discriminate against applicants or students on the basis ofrace, color, religion, gender, age, marital status, sexual orientation, national or ethnicorigin, veteran’s status, qualified handicap, or any other consideration made unlawfulby local, state, or federal law. <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a member of the National Associationof <strong>College</strong> Admission Counseling (NACAC) and adheres to NACAC’s Statement ofPrinciples of Good Practice.Application forms may be requested from the Office of Admissions or completedonline at www.barton.edu. Many high school and transfer counselors also haveapplications available.<strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> reserves the right to change admissions requirements.Freshman AdmissionFreshman Admission RequirementsThe student must meet the following requirements for admission:• Have a high school diploma or its equivalent with a total of at least 13 collegepreparatory units.• The following selection of courses is recommended (except where minimum requirementsapply): English (4-unit minimum required); Mathematics (3-unit minimum required,including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II); Natural Science (2 units, including onelaboratory science); Social Science (3 units). Foreign Languages, while not required, areencouraged and are counted as college preparatory units to reach the 13-unit minimum.• Take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American <strong>College</strong> Testing Program (ACT).As recommended by the testing agencies, no applicant is granted automatic admission ordenied admission to the <strong>College</strong> on the sole basis of these test scores. SAT and ACT scoresmay be waived when the person is age 21 or older and has graduated from high school atleast three years ago.
