19 Financial AidFINANCIAL AIDMaking Your Education AffordableThanks to scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study, there are many ways to makeyour <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> education affordable. Our financial aid staff will work closelywith you to explore all of the funding resources available. Our goal is to ensure thatevery student receives our best comprehensive offer of financial assistance and thatyour affordable investment in a <strong>Barton</strong> education becomes a reality.Each year more than 90% of <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong>’s student body receives financial aidfrom various sources. The <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> Office of Financial Aid combines federal,state, and institutional aid in order to assist students and families with the cost ofattendance at <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong>.So, Where Do You Begin?The first step is to apply to <strong>Barton</strong>. The other extremely important step is tocomplete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or FAFSA) after January 1before each academic year. Even if you think you don’t qualify for federal aid, it’simportant to apply, because other funding sources insist on it, including scholarships,state aid, student loans, and work-study. So, complete the FAFSA and remember todo this every year! Other important sources of help include our <strong>Barton</strong> scholarships,outside scholarships, and Federal work-study. We’ve also provided calculators so youcan quickly get a rough snapshot of your options.Award (Freshman) DescriptionScholarship Award Criteria$ AmountTrustee Honors Scholarship Competitive Scholarships for Trustee-level recipients who $10,000score a SAT Critical Reading score of 520 ≥ or an ACTEnglish score of 22 ≥. Students who meet these qualificationsare invited to attend an off-campus scholarship competition inorder to be considered for one of these awards. The HonorsTrustee Scholarship award is in addition to the TrusteeScholarship and is renewable when the student maintainsa 3.25 GPA.Trustee Scholarship* 3.25 GPA ≥, 1100 SAT ≥ or 24 ACT ≥. The award is $10,000renewable when the student maintains a 3.25 GPA.Presidential Scholarship* 3.0 GPA ≥, 1050 SAT ≥ or 22 ACT ≥, top 45% of high $ 6,500school class. The award is renewable when the studentmaintains a 3.0 GPA.<strong>Barton</strong> W. Stone Scholarship* 2.7 GPA ≥, 950 SAT >≥ or 20 ACT ≥, top 55% of high $ 5,000school class. The award is renewable when the studentmaintains a 2.7 GPA.John J. Harper Scholarship* 2.5 GPA ≥, 850 SAT >≥ or 17 ACT ≥, top 65% of high $ 3,000school class. The award is renewable when the studentmaintains a 2.5 GPA.* SAT scores are based on math and critical reading scores only.
