32 Financial AidThe Boykin-Dillon Family International Travel Endowed Scholarship was establishedinitially through an estate gift from Mrs. Sarah Dillon Wakefield to reflect her love for <strong>Barton</strong><strong>College</strong> and her passion for travel. The Boykin-Dillon Family International Travel EndowedScholarship is awarded annually to one or more <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> undergraduate students who needfinancial support in order to participate in one of <strong>Barton</strong>’s travel programs.The Bertha R. Brewer Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Ernest Brewer inmemory of his wife. The scholarship is awarded to a student who will be a junior or senior majoringin history or the social sciences. The faculty of the Department of History and Social Sciencesmakes the selection.The G. Ernest Brewer Memorial Scholarship was created by the estate of Mr. Brewer.Earnings are to be awarded to a non-senior <strong>Barton</strong> intercollegiate athlete best combining academicand athletic performance. Each team can nominate one athlete for the award with all coachesvoting on the winner. The award will be presented at the spring banquet.The Elizabeth Faye Brinson Memorial Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs.Jack D. Brinson of Arapahoe, North Carolina, in memory of their daughter, Elizabeth Faye. It isavailable for a student preparing for full-time church vocation.The Gregory Broughton Endowed Scholarship was established by Lee and SteveBroughton of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in memory of their son, a <strong>Barton</strong> student and amember of the North Carolina Iota Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. A $1,000 nonrenewablescholarship is awarded annually to a member of the fraternity.The Edward C. Brown Endowed Scholarship was established in memory of Ed Brown,who was a dedicated member of the <strong>College</strong>’s art faculty for over 36 years, by endowment giftsfrom his wife, Joyce, and children, Amanda and Roger. The Edward C. Brown EndowedScholarship is awarded annually to one or more <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> undergraduate students who areworking on a B.F.A. or B.S. degree in art, with a concentration in sculpture or ceramics.The T. Edward Brown, Jr. and Helen C. Brown Endowed Scholarship was establishedby Mr. Thomas E. Brown III, in memory of his parents. The endowment recognizes thecontributions of Mr. Brown as a member of the <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> Board of Trustees and the serviceand dedication of both Mr. and Mrs. Brown to the <strong>College</strong> and the Wilson community. TheT. Edward Brown, Jr. and Helen C. Brown Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to a fulltime business major. The student must be a junior or senior, maintain a 2.50 GPA and exhibitentrepreneurial characteristics, which include being independent, action-oriented, creative,confident, opportunity seeking, and a clear knowledge of the free enterprise system.
