Broadcast Journalism. 3.A study of television news gathering and reporting with emphasis on electronic field productionand news packaging. The course also provides the student with practical experience in productionof studio newscasts and a detailed study of control room and postproduction procedures. Fall.Prerequisite: COM 320.Note: Digital video camera is required.COM 451. Senior Interdisciplinary Seminar. 3.Interdisciplinary capstone experience for seniors in the Department of Communication andPerforming Arts. A requirement is the completion and presentation of a comprehensive projectin the student’s concentration (Mass Communications) or focus (Theatre), which is coordinatedwith the major professor. Spring.Prerequisite: Senior Mass Communications or Theatre major.COM 470. Internship. 3.Option of being placed in an off-campus internship or of completing an on-campus independentproject. The internship is a supervised apprenticeship which provides practical experience, whileallowing the student to establish industry contacts, which may lead to entry-level employment.Fall, Spring.Prerequisites:• COM 371.• Junior or senior standing with at least 62 semester hours completed. Transfer students musthave completed at least 30 semester hours at <strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong>.• Permission of the major professor and/or department chair.• For students who wish to complete an off-campus internship:1) a minimum 2.00 cumulative grade point average2) a minimum 2.50 grade point average in major courses3) no grades lower than a C- in major courses4) completion of courses in the concentration area as listed below:- for the Audio Recording Technology Concentration: COM 101, 215, 216, 310,311, 312, and a minimum of one semester hour of 010 (19 semester hours)- for the Broadcast/Video Production Concentration: COM 215, 216, 225, 325,330, and a minimum of one semester hour of 012 (16 semester hours)- for the Public Relations Concentration: COM 225, 317, 321, 325, 370, 380(18 semester hours)- Journalism Concentration: COM 225, 316, 317, 324, 325, 416, and twosemester hours of 011 (17 semester hours)Note: Pass/Fail grading.
