106 Special Academic ProgramsIn addition to the academic requirements, students are expected to attend a number of social andcultural events on campus. Monthly, the honors program has an organized social event includingplays, lectures, athletic events, art exhibitions and other intellectual activities. Honor students enjoytwo unique privileges on campus: early registration and the opportunity to live in East CampusSuites on the Honors Floor. Students are also encouraged to travel internationally, but this is not arequirement for graduating with honors.Students are required to maintain a 3.25 grade point average (GPA) to continue in the program.The GPA is evaluated at the end of each academic school year and a warning letter is givento students who are below this. It is our desire that all students in the program complete therequirements and graduate with hours. The Director of the Honors Program and the HonorsCouncil are very involved in helping facilitate the success of the honor students.International Programs<strong>Barton</strong> <strong>College</strong> is firmly committed to the belief that education involves learning how to seethe world from multiple perspectives. One of the best ways to develop an awareness of otherperspectives is to travel and to experience first-hand cultural differences. The InternationalPrograms at <strong>Barton</strong> exist to provide these learning experiences.Study AbroadThe <strong>College</strong> has exchange agreements with the following institutions in other countries: AichiShukutoko University in Aichi, Japan; Franklin <strong>College</strong> in Lugano, Switzerland; University of EastAnglia in Norwich, United Kingdom; University <strong>College</strong> of Chichester in West Sussex, UnitedKingdom; and Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. The <strong>College</strong> also has an agreement withCentral <strong>College</strong> in Iowa to provide a variety of travel and study abroad programs for <strong>Barton</strong>students and an agreement with AustraLearn, an organization that provides study abroad programsin Australia and New Zealand. In addition, travel courses are taught outside the United Statesby <strong>Barton</strong> faculty, especially during Spring Break. Each year, in early spring, the <strong>College</strong> hosts anHonors Day competition for students invited to campus to compete for four $1,000 scholarships tobe used for one of the <strong>Barton</strong> International Travel courses taught in Spring Semester. All studentsinvited are eligible to become part of the <strong>Barton</strong> Honors Program.Bachelor of Liberal Studies DegreeA Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree program is offered through the Office of AcceleratedProfessional Programs. The interdisciplinary degree program is designed for the AcceleratedProfessional Programs student. Extremely flexible, the program provides tracks that may be tailoredto meet the personal and professional needs of the individual student.
