The following is a statement of facts by Mrs. Charles Partridge,taken from the minutes o the New York circle, attested by several highlyrespectable and credible persons, among whom ismy personal friend, DoctorGray.1657. " Persons at the circle have been unexpectedly turned round inthe chairs in which they were sitting, and moved to and from the table.Chairs and sofas have suddenly started from their positions against thewall, and moved forward to the centre of the room, when they were requiredin the formation of the circle. The persons in the circle haveeach successively lifted his own side of the table, and theinvisible powerhas raised the opposite side correspondingly. Occasionally the spiritshave raised the table entirely, and sustained it in air, at a distance offrom one to three feet from the floor, so that all could satisfy themselvesthat no person in the flesh was touching it. Lights of variouscolours have been produced in dark rooms. A man has been suspendedin, and conveyed through, the air, a distance of fifty feet, or more. Thecommunications have been given invarious ways, but chiefly in writing,and by the rappings through the ordinary alphabetical mode.1658.
