Hyphens and dashesSince hyphens, dashes, and minus signs are represented by the same ASCIIcharacter, ambiguous situations may occur at times. To avoid ambiguoussituations, <strong>Vocalizer</strong> uses a set of disambiguation rules. Specifically, <strong>Vocalizer</strong>considers the “-” character to be:■■■■A trait d’union if located between letters and consider each side as being partof the same word if in dictionary.A signe de moins if followed by a number, indicating a negative number.A tiret and pronounced “à” if located between two numbers without a spaceas in number intervals or game scores.A trait d’union if preceded by a letter and followed by a carriage return plus aletter. The words on either side of the hyphen are joined and handled as asingle word.Parentheses and double quotes<strong>Vocalizer</strong> handles parentheses and double quotes.
