ICS-1000 Ion Chromatography System5.8 Replacing the Waste Valve or Priming Valve O-RingA damaged O-ring causes leakage around the base of the waste valve orpriming valve knob.1. Close the eluent valve from the Control Panel in Chromeleon.2. Turn off the main power switch, to ensure that you do not unintentionally startthe ICS-1000.3. To remove the waste valve or priming valve from the pump head (seeFigure 5-7), turn the knob counterclockwise until it is loose, and then pull theknob straight out of the cavity in the pump head.Priming ValveWaste ValveFigure 5-7. Waste and Priming Valves4. If the O-ring is removed with the valve knob in Step 2, pull the O-ring off theend of the knob (see Figure 5-8). If the O-ring is not removed with the valveknob, insert a thin object (for example, the bent end of a paper clip) into thecavity in the pump head and carefully pull out the O-ring. Do not scratch thecavity.Scratches in the cavity will cause leaks around the base of the knobwhile the pump is being primed.5-18 Doc. 031879-01 3/03

To reinstall the valve containing the new O-ring, turn the knob clockwise andthen tighten fingertight.NOTEIt is normal to encounter resistance after severalrotations of the knob; the O-ring is being pushedinto the cavity of the pump head.7.
