5•Service5.1.4 Calibrating the Vacuum Degas AssemblyWhen to Calibrate• After every 6 months of use1. Open the ICS-1000 Wellness Panel in Chromeleon (seeSection 5.1.1).2. On the Wellness Panel under Degas Calibration, select Calibrate. The degas pump runs for 90 seconds to allow a vacuum to be created. After 90 seconds, the vacuum degas pressure reading is recorded. When the vacuum degas assembly is running in monitor mode, thiscalibration value is used to determine when to turn on the degaspump.3. Click Log to record the new calibration value in the Audit Trail.5.2 Isolating a Restriction in the Liquid LinesA restriction in the liquid plumbing will cause excessive system backpressure.1. Begin pumping eluent through the system (including the columns).2. Follow the ICS-1000 flow schematic in Figure 5-2 and work backwardthrough the system, beginning at the suppressor Regen Out exit. One at a time, loosen each fitting and observe the pressure. The connection at which thepressure drops abnormally indicates the point of restriction.NOTEThe numbers on the flow schematic indicate the order inwhich liquid flows through the system components. If the restriction has caused such high pressure that the system cannot beoperated, you must work forward through the flow schematic, adding partsone at a time until an abnormal pressure increase (and hence, the restriction) isfound.3. If the restriction is in the tubing or fitting, remove the restriction by backflushing or by replacing the tubing or fitting (see Section 5.3).Doc. 031879-01 3/03 5-7
