The name of the settlement was first mentioned in 1219. The two most significant buildings
of the city were built for Count István Károlyi. The classicist style castle built in the mid 19th
century based on the plans of Miklós Ybl, was the administrative centre of the land. The Roman
Catholic church, which was built as a worthy burial place for the Count’s family, is today the most
important work of Hungarian romanticism together with the Vigadó.

Der Name der Siedlung wird im Jahre 1219 zum ersten Mal erwähnt. Die zwei bedeutendsten
Gebäude der Stadt sind dem Grafen István Károlyi zu verdanken. Das klassizistische Schloss
wurde in der Mitte des XIX. Jahrhunderts nach den Plänen des Architekten Miklós Ybl erbaut.
Die römisch-katholische Kirche, die als Begräbnisstätte der Familie diente, ist heute - neben dem
Ballhaus-Gebäude - eines der bedeutendsten Werke der ungarischen Romantik.

Il nome dell’insediamento viene menzionato per la prima volta nel 1219. I due palazzi principali
della città si devono al conte István Károlyi. Il castello in stile neoclassico della metà del XIX°
secolo è stato costruito su progetto di Miklós Ybl e serviva come centro di gestione economica. La
chiesa cattolica, costruita come degno luogo per la sepoltura della famiglia del conte, è uno dei
monumenti più significativi del romanticismo ungherese insieme al Palazzo dei concerti Vigadó.

A település nevét elsőként 1219-ben említik. A város két legjelentősebb épületét Gróf Károlyi
Istvánnak köszönhetjük. Ybl Miklós tervei alapján épült fel az XIX. század közepén a klasszicista
stílusú kastély, mely a gazdaság irányításának központjául szolgált. A Római katolikus templom,
mely a grófi családhoz méltó temetkezési helynek készült, ma a Vigadó mellett a magyar
romantika legjelentősebb alkotása.
