BUDA CASTLE
The history of Buda Castle goes back to the days of old
times. The early central palace was severely damaged in the
battles against the Turks, but later thanks to the initiative of
Maria Theresa, it was renovated in a majestic baroque style.
Unfortunately, the palace fell victim to the Second World War,
and at present it does retain any parts which would reflect the
luxury of the bygone days’ kings. Today, it has an important
role in the country’s cultural life since its chambers are used
by the Hungarian National Gallery, the National Széchenyi
Library, the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art and the
Historical Museum of Budapest.
DIE BUDAER BURG
Ihre Geschichte reicht lange in die Vergangenheit zurück,
der frühere Zentralpalast wurde nämlich noch in den
Türkenkriegen stark beschädigt. Die im Barockstil verrichteten
Renovierungsarbeiten wurden von Maria Theresia veranlaßt.
Die Burg wurde im II. Weltkrieg zerstört. Heute finden wir
in den Räumen nichts mehr, was uns an den Prunk der
damaligen Könige erinnern würde. Aus kultureller Sicht spielt
sie eine bedeutende Rolle, denn in ihr befinden sich nämlich
die Ungarische Nationalgalerie, die Széchenyi Bibliothek,
das Zeitgenössische Kunstmuseum und das Budapester
Historische Museum.
