Board (CARB) – Red Sticker
OHV Assessment. Ongoing
study regarding the use
of OHVs in California. The
purpose of the assessment is
to investigate the evaporative
and exhaust emissions
impact of Red Sticker OHVs.
Assessment includes a UC
Davis hosted online survey
of nearly 3,000 OHV recreationists in California. In addition to the emissions
data, survey results provide insight into OHV recreation trends in California
as demonstrated by this sample table form the September 9, 2016, CARB
presentation before the OHMVR Commission.
With changing demographics and increasing population, OHV recreation demand
in California will continue to evolve along with the associated economic benefit.
California’s OHMVR Program would be well served by a comprehensive statewide
OHV recreation demographics and economic benefit study. California’s OHMVR
Program must keep pace with the evolving demand for OHV recreation to ensure the
continuation of this crucial economic machine into the future.
USFS Visitor Use Monitoring
As the demographics of California change over
time it is important for public land managers to
gather visitor data to assist in the development
and management of recreational
facilities. The United States Forest
Service (USFS) has a robust visitor
use monitoring program for National
Forest lands. The results of the
visitor use monitoring can be accessed by forest,
region or nationality. Data is available for items like
visitor demographics, economics, visit duration and activity. This type of data gathering would
benefit the SVRA operations/management and should be implemented in the future. For more
