scientists, archaeologists, and interpreters attended the presentation and requested<br />

more training from Professor Solis.<br />

Hungry Valley SVRA and Ocotillo Wells SVRA maintenance and visitor services<br />

staff participate in fire suppression training classes and have responded to fires at<br />

the SVRAs and participated in prescribed burns. Maintenance crews are integral in<br />

fire suppression tactics since they run the water tenders.<br />

OHMVR Division and SVRA interpretive staff participated in a bi-annual OHMVR<br />

Division Interpretation Summit at Prairie City SVRA. Interpreters shared interpretive<br />

techniques unique to OHV interpretation,<br />

learned about innovative technology for use<br />

in interpretive programs, and sharpened<br />

their skills on ROV and trailer operation.<br />

In addition, interpreters participated in a<br />

two-day class about graphic interpretive<br />

design through the National Association of<br />

Interpretation.<br />

Ocotillo Wells District staff is encouraged<br />

to spend a portion of their off-season time<br />

in other park units. SVRA and non-OHV<br />

Bi-annual OHMVR Division Interpretation Summit<br />

park units request Ocotillo Wells District staff from all disciplines to assist with trails,<br />

heavy equipment operations, public safety, and resource projects and monitoring.<br />

Staff appreciate the opportunity for personal and professional growth.<br />

3.3 By 2011, increase the average number of years staff work at the<br />

Division, and strive to maintain full workplace capacity.<br />

Since 2014, the OHMVR Division filled a number of vacant positions. For example,<br />

the cultural and natural resources section hired environmental scientists and<br />

archaeologists to assist SVRAs with resource programs. The outreach and<br />

education section hired interpreters to participate in outreach events, social media<br />

engagement, and writing for publications. By filling vacant positions, the OHMVR<br />

Division law enforcement team was able to develop curriculum and conduct OHV<br />

law enforcement and sound testing training to local, state, and federal agencies<br />

offering OHV recreation.<br />

The OHMVR Division provides opportunities for staff to build their skills for their<br />

current positions and to train for future advancement. For example, training and<br />
