Goal 4 Objectives<br />
Achieve a highly informed and educated community associated with OHV<br />
recreational activities, dedicated to safe and lawful OHV operation and<br />
responsible environmental stewardship.<br />
4.1 By 2010, the Division will convene an OHV Education Stakeholder<br />
Group to advise the Division in the development of a successful<br />
statewide educational program regarding responsible OHV use.<br />
By 2011, the Division will develop and begin implementing the<br />
educational program.<br />

On April 28, 2016, the OHV Safety Education Committee (OHVSEC) reconvened<br />
for the first time since 2001. In attendance were OHMVR Commissioner Paul<br />
Slavik; CHP designee Captain Kevin Davis; DMV designee Robert Benson;<br />
OHMVR Division designee Greg Schumaker and other OHMVR Division staff.<br />
The participants discussed the history of the OHMVR Program; the OHVSEC; the<br />
ATV Safety Certificate program; California ATV laws; past ATV Safety Training<br />
Organizations (STO); the current ATV STO program and guidelines; and DMV<br />
requirements to become an ATV STO.<br />

On May 10, 2016, members of the OHVSEC met with a representative from the<br />
ATV Safety Institute. After the meeting, the members participated in an ATV<br />
RiderCourse SM at Prairie City SVRA to experience the hands-on program firsthand.<br />
Future OHVSEC meetings will address ATV Safety Certificate challenges that may<br />
affect the development of the minimum criteria for certification for ATV STO.<br />
4.2 By 2015, commercial OHV advertising targeted to California<br />
consumers, including print and broadcast media, will accurately<br />
represent appropriate and responsible OHV use.<br />

Ocotillo Wells SVRA – Interpreters are building a partnership with a popular<br />
Coachella Valley radio station that provides music on the I-10 and Highway 86<br />
travel corridors to the park. The partnership includes opportunities to develop<br />
public service announcements, provide content for regularly scheduled OHV<br />
reports, promote upcoming park events, as well as provide conservation and safety<br />
messaging to listeners.<br />
