JUNSEKINO ARCHITECT AND DESIGN
With all of those experiences working in residential design in response to people’s lifestyles,
we can see it reflected in the office management by definition: “family.” That is something
else he wants to emphasize in terms of how he wants his work environment to be. Even the
office is tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood. Junsekino Architect and Design has
a design approach centered on the interaction between architecture and the understanding
of its residents’ life, but it also considers the environment, climate, and the country’s natural
oscillations.
“With the tropical weather in Thailand, we also want to work on designing
architecture that can be in the water and ready to face the strong sunlight,”
he went on to say. And, of course, the concept of design work appears straightforward;
it follows the established procedure. However, this office has adapted and refined this concept
through material experimentation. Furthermore, they are receptive to new approaches that
are regularly altered to each period.
“Our working philosophy is to respond to shifting trends in specific issues.” In terms
of office management, for example, 2010 differed from 2020. The office was operated
differently ten years ago and ten years later. There are always exchanges between
our perspectives and the design world, conversations with customers, material costs,
and management. We don’t require a unified core or ultimate perfection to describe
ourselves. We believe that each of our jobs is unique since it is influenced by what is
going on in many areas at the moment, such as the customer’s ideas, location, and
materials, all of which always come into play to influence the design work at that time.
So we established our office in the shape of a mirror. The reflection is a different color
than the image on the opposite side, which could be according to client questions,
project location, or even our interests.”
“We are probably like a mirror reflecting colors different from the picture in
front of us.”
Junsekino Architect and Design’s work design goes hand in hand with experimenting with the
potential of materials, always looking for other possibilities in various aspects of materials that
are not limited by the prevalent concept of that material, with a way of thinking based on traditional
practices. Instead, they frequently carry out design work with procedures that extend
beyond that material’s bounds before exploring new possibilities in other materials. In some
projects, however, they chose to mix and match, experimenting with compatibility to find new
conversations with a wide range of materials.
“For instance, we were once intrigued by steel.” Until a certain
point, we would continuously develop and experiment, and we
believe that is sufficient. Although we have not lost interest in
those endeavors, our focus has transitioned to alternative pursuits.
We once had an interest in constructing houses from bricks,
so we continued to do so, progressing from small brick houses to
medium and large undertakings such as office buildings, using
bricks and mortar until bricks no longer required mortar. The same
holds true regarding woodworking.”
