prospects for future urban growth, drawing
upon the foundations of the past.
Ekaphap Duangkaew, the founder and design
director of EKAR Architects, disclosed that during
the design phase, he and the EKAR team aimed to
convey the city’s historical knowledge by creating
new architectural structures. Nevertheless, scant
remnants of evidence persist today, with certain
pieces of evidence just documented and lacking
widespread recognition.

“During our visit to different sites, we observed
that only grass remained.” “Only the foundation
remains,” Ekaphap stated, referring to the remaining
fragments of the old ruins. “The entity known as
U Thong, which was previously the subject of extensive
search efforts by the city and its residents,
no longer exists.” It signifies its prior existence,
although it lacks substantiating evidence at present.
This prompts us to contemplate it. If we acknowledge
that our superiority stems from the absence
of those entities, we consequently accept our profound
antiquity. However, those items have vanished,
instead of saying that we have a lot of old things
left, that approach may not seem very powerful.
But we wanted to make it more honest and real.
This also makes us different from other historical
sites.”
