How did “BodinChapa Architects”<br />

get started?<br />

Phitchapa Lothong : After graduating<br />

from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology<br />

Ladkrabang's Faculty of Architecture,<br />

Art, and Design, we both worked<br />

independently. Bodin had the opportunity<br />

to work as a designer on his first<br />

project, Lann Tim, for which he was in<br />

charge of the design from start to finish.<br />

He went on to work in the office after<br />

finishing that job and gaining some<br />

expertise. After a while, we felt com-<br />

pelled to band together and pursue our<br />

interests, such as exciting architecture<br />

projects. So, at the time, we opened a<br />

studio. And, after working in Bangkok<br />

for a while, it appeared that the environment<br />

was not suited to us functioning<br />

fully. So we decided to collaborate in<br />

our hometown of Ayutthaya. After a year<br />

of running the studio, there were a<br />

few juniors—about 5–6 people kept<br />

coming in. I believe we will stick with<br />

this scale, at least for a while.<br />

Can you tell us about your design<br />

approach and philosophy?<br />

Phitchapa Lothong : We wanted to<br />

quite interested in. How to employ local<br />

materials in perfect harmony with technology<br />

to increase our and the builders'<br />

job efficiency even further. We've discovered<br />

that local builders aren't wellversed<br />
