The PREVI project in Lima, Peru in the 1960s, was<br />
an experimental project focusing on low-rise, highdensity<br />
housing to tackle the demand for affordable<br />
home. The project was initiated by President<br />
Fernando Belaúnde and architect Peter Land and<br />
saw the construction of 520 houses by 13 international<br />
architectural firms and 13 Peruvian firms. Its<br />
primary goal was to create flexible spaces that<br />
could accommodate changes and expansions by<br />
the residents 3 , prompting each architect to explore<br />
cost-effective housing solutions around modular<br />
design. This is evident in the work of Kikutake-<br />
Kurokawa-Maki team. Concrete blocks were a<br />
popular choice among many architectural offices.<br />
Quinta Monroy Housing project in Chile by Elemental,<br />
reflects the legacy from the PREVI projects<br />
in its core idea of creating flexible, open spaces<br />
accommodating future expansion. Elemental's<br />
initial Half Built houses were constructed using<br />
