AI Daayan Health District (OMA, 2018-): A proposed
health district exploring potential of modularity,
prefabrication, and automation. ‘Not as a building,
but as a system made up with modules incorporating
gardens...' 3D printers and assembly robots
are utilized to construct the structure, modular units
which can be reconfigured and expanded with
minimal disruption. An autonomous form of architecture
of the future.
Vertical surfaces constructed from sun-dried bricks
rise to meet spanning domes, then coated with mud
to create living space. The future of high-tech and
high-performance architecture may surprisingly
find common ground with these primitive forms of
masonry construction.

Block needs Bond. Coordination and sequencing
in block construction define both its structural
integrity and direction for architectural unity.
St. Mark's Church by Sigurd Lewerentz shows
that managing these orders, such as the size of
blocks and the thickness of the mortar, can create a
specific scale and texture. Using mortar as a binder
allows small blocks to be assembled, forming a
unified surface. The proportion of the bonding
agent acts as a factor that create an overall image
for the building.
