Tracciamo un ricordo di Sara con la consapevolezza
di quanto sia poco naturale farlo. Non solo perché
non è nell’ordine delle cose morire a 47 anni e perché
nessuno di noi ha ancora accettato fi no in fondo
l’idea che Sara non ci sia più, ma perché la sua voglia
di vivere e la forza con cui ha lottato contro il mostro
(così chiamava la sua malattia), non mettendo
nemmeno in conto – come ci aveva confi dato dopo
la diagnosi – l’idea di non guarire, fanno a pugni con
qualsiasi necrologio, anche il più affettuoso. Sara non
avrebbe voluto essere ricordata in questo catalogo:
alle Giornate lei avrebbe voluto esserci e contribuire,
come aveva fatto fi n dal 1995, alla loro riuscita – e
anche vedere, da appassionata lettrice di Dickens,
le tante versioni cinematografi che delle sue storie.
L’incontro di Sara con le Giornate avvenne in
occasione del centenario del cinema. Allora, come parte del team della Biblioteca dell’Immagine di Pordenone, si
occupava del bookshop e faceva da guida alle scolaresche in visita alla storica mostra “Luce e movimento”. L’anno
successivo, dopo l’assunzione a Cinemazero, entrò a far parte uffi cialmente della nostra squadra e da allora abbiamo
curato insieme (e con Fulvio Toffoli, fi no al 2009) l’uffi cio stampa. Sara seguiva inoltre altri aspetti della promozione
e teneva i rapporti con le istituzioni locali. Grazie alle sue doti comunicative e diplomatiche ha rappresentato il trait
d’union ideale fra il festival e la città, anche perché della città e del suo tessuto culturale era parte integrante. Eclettica
nei suoi interessi, anche dopo aver lasciato Cinemazero ha continuato a partecipare attivamente alla vita culturale
di Pordenone e del Friuli collaborando, oltre che con le Giornate, con altri eventi di rilievo come Pordenonelegge, e
scrivendo di cultura e di spettacolo sulle pagine del Messaggero Veneto e del Piccolo.
Dal 1995, questa è la prima edizione delle Giornate senza Sara. L’anno scorso aveva lavorato fi no all’ultimo, rinunciando
a essere fi sicamente presente al festival solo perché proprio a fi ne settembre era stata fi ssata l’operazione in cui
riponeva tante speranze, e che invece rivelò tutta la gravità della situazione.
Per il suo carattere, una combinazione unica di dolcezza, simpatia e caparbietà, la sua ironia, la competenza, la
varietà dei suoi interessi che spaziavano dal cinema alla letteratura all’arte all’architettura al design, Sara lascia un
ricordo indelebile e un grande vuoto. Né potremo dimenticare la lezione di dignità e coraggio che ci ha dato sfi dando
la malattia con l’incoscienza degli intrepidi. Aveva dei timori, come li avrebbe chiunque, ma ha affrontato ogni tappa,
per quanto dolorosa fosse, da vera combattente, senza arrendersi a uno stato di debolezza crescente, e che pure non
le ha mai tolto eleganza e bellezza. La magrezza, semmai, metteva ancora più in luce la lievità dei lineamenti e i suoi
begli occhi azzurri.
Nel corso di quei diffi cili mesi Sara ha avuto il conforto e il sostegno concreto di tanti amici e di tante amiche,
una catena di affetto e di solidarietà autentica ancora oggi impegnata a costruire progetti importanti che mirano a
sottolineare e a rinnovare il ruolo di Sara all’interno della comunità. A loro va il nostro più sentito grazie.
Non potremmo che chiudere con le parole e con il sorriso di Sara, che ha saputo essere leggera sempre, anche nei
momenti più critici. Alla vigilia dell’operazione, giusto un anno fa, scriveva così a chi le stava vicino: “Grazie per quello
che avete fatto per me in questi mesi e per tutto l’affetto e l’attenzione che mi avete riservato. Durante l’anestesia vi
sognerò. Ragazzi: FINALMENTE SI DORME!!!!!!!!!! baci, bacini. s.” – GIULIANA PUPPIN
We record this memory of Sara, with the awareness of how unnatural it is to
do so. Not just because it is not in the order of things to die at 47, and that none
of us has yet totally accepted the idea that Sara will not be with us any more,
but because her will to live and the strength with which she battled against the
“monster” (as she called her sickness) – not even considering, as she confi ded
after the diagnosis, the idea of not coming through – in a way deny any kind
of “obituary”, even the most affectionate. Sara would not have wished to be
remembered in this catalogue; she would have wanted to be here to contribute,
as she had since 1995, to its success. And, as a passionate reader of Dickens, she
was very happy at the idea of being able to see so many fi lm versions of his stories.
The fi rst encounter of Sara and the Giornate was on the occasion of the
centenary of cinema. Then, as a member of the team of the Pordenone Biblioteca
dell’Immagine, she took care of the bookshop and conducted school tours of the
historic 1995 “Light and Movement” exhibition. The following year, after joining
Cinemazero, she offi cially became part of the Giornate team and from then on we
curated the press offi ce together – until 2009 also with Fulvio Toffoli. In addition
Sara followed other promotional aspects and maintained relations with local
institutions. Thanks to her gifts of communication and diplomacy, she represented
the ideal trait d’union between the festival and the city, particularly since she
was herself an integral part of the city and its fabric. Eclectic in her interests,
even after leaving Cinemazero she continued to participate actively in the cultural
life of Pordenone and Friuli, collaborating, apart from the Giornate, with other
important cultural events such as Pordenonelegge, and writing about culture and
entertainment for Messaggero Veneto and Il Piccolo.
This is the fi rst edition of the Giornate without Sara since 1995. Last year she had
worked until the last moment, only giving up the possibility of being physically
present at the Festival because just at the end of September the date was fi xed
for the operation on which she placed so much hope, but which instead revealed
the full gravity of the situation.
Biblioteca di Sara
Oltre al cinema Sara amava profondamente la lettura e i libri, tanto da custodirne
un gran numero. Affi nché questo vasto patrimonio non vada perso, gli amici di Sara,
l’associazione Andos e l’ospedale di Pordenone stanno elaborando il progetto “La
Biblioteca di Sara” che, attraverso i libri e il loro utilizzo, permetterà di mantenere
vivo il ricordo di Sara e insieme il coraggio e la dignità con cui ha combattuto la
malattia oncologica. A sostegno di questa iniziativa, domenica 7 ottobre al Teatro
Verdi ci sarà una raccolta fondi in occasione della serata dickensiana in ricordo di

For her character – a unique combination of sweetness, sympathy and obstinacy
– her irony, competence, the variety of her interests, which ranged from cinema
to literature, to art, architecture and design, Sara leaves an indelible record and
a great gap.
We cannot forget the lesson of dignity and courage which she has given us,
defying the malady with the recklessness of great courage. She had fears, as
anyone would have, but she confronted every setback, no matter how painful, as
a real fi ghter, without giving way to a state of growing weakness, which had never
taken away her elegance and beauty. The leanness, if anything, emphasized her
fi ne features and beautiful blue eyes.
In the course of these diffi cult months, Sara had the comfort and the concrete
support of many friends, a chain of affection and true solidarity, still committed
today to organize and establish important projects that will aim to emphasize and
renew the role of Sara within the community. To these friends we owe special
gratitude.
We can only conclude with the words and with the smile of Sara, who could
always be light, even in the most crucial moments. Just before the operation,
exactly a year ago, she wrote this to those who were closest to her: “Thank you
for all you have done for me in these months and for all the affection and attention
which you have given me. Under the anaesthetic I shall dream of you. Friends:
FINALLY SOME SLEEP!!!!!!!!!! Kisses, many kisses. S.” – GIULIANA PUPPIN
Sara’s Library
As well as cinema, Sara profoundly loved literature and books, of which she had
lovingly collected and treasured a great number. So that this important heritage
is not lost, Sara’s friends, the Andos Association and the hospital of Pordenone,
are developing the project “La Biblioteca di Sara” (Sara’s Library) which, through
the books and their continuing use, will enable us to keep alive the memory of
Sara and at the same time the courage and dignity with which she fought cancer.
To help support this initiative fi nancially, on Sunday October 7 at the Teatro Verdi a
collection will be made on the occasion of the Dickens serata dedicated to Sara’s
