EISA (the European Imaging and Sound Association) understood this some time ago – which is why EISA Awards have become, over the past quarter of century, the CE industry’s benchmark of quality. The positive impact of an EISA award on the future sales has not escaped the manufacturing community – as can be seen at IFA press conferences, where executives are quick to flag up any product has been honoured by an EISA Award. The big day in 2010 was last Friday, when the Adlon hotel played host to top CE manufacturers’ marketing directors from around the world. Among the 2010 winners were Panasonic, whose TX-P50VT20 took the honours as best European 3D Plasma TV; Philips, which took the gong for best European LCD TV with its 46PFL9705 model; Pioneer with its XW-NAC3 Home Sound System, with its AVC-F20BT in-car navy media system, with its TS-SW3001 in-car subwoofer; Devialet D-Premier High- End Audio and Sony, whose BRAVIA KDL- 52HX900 voted European 3D LCD TV of the year. The prize for the best European TV Innovation went to Sharp for its Quattron RGBY technology, which enhances picture brightness and helps reduce power consumption. EISA President, Jorge Gonçalves, said: “At EISA, we attempt to help consumers make decisions based on quality rather than quantity, and to discern the difference between entry-level and cheap, as well as between high price and high quality.” The evening also saw the launch of the third edition of the publication Sustainable Development Initiatives (SDI), which spotlights the green products awarded by EISA and takes a close-up look at some of the eco-industry’s movers and shakers. • Publisher: Gérard Lefebvre • Publishing Director: Jean-Guy Bienfait • Project Manager: Bettina Badon • Editor-in-Chief: Richard Barnes • Associate Editor: Jooree Cho • Editorial team: Neil Crossley, Michael Demiak, Marc Dezzani, Joe Morgan, Julian Newby, Emmanuel Poidevin, Gary Smith, Jo Stephens • Photos: Didier Baverel • Videos: Cine plus Media Service GmbH & Co. It’s one of the most important fairs for the industry as we not only see the innovations in the industry, but also we do lots of business for end of year sales. One of the most important changes I saw was the movement from only showcasing brown goods to now showcasing brown and white goods. Now the two retail groups are together.
